The  water  quality  should  be  very  high  for  Discus.  Carry  out  water  changes  more  frequently.

Did  you  quarantine  each  of  the  batches  separately  ?  What  are  you  feeding  them  ?  And  try  to  change  water  50%  every  other  day  and  always  keep  them  in  BARE  BOTTOM  tanks.

What  are  the  size  of  the  discus  ?
How  long  you  have  these  discus  in  this  tank  ?
What  do  you  feed  them  ?
Are  the  discus  showing  any  symptons  ?

To  advice  you  ,  we  first  want  to  know  the  problem.  Before  Discus  dies  they  definately  shows  some  symptons  .What  is  the  present  condition  of  all  the  discus  in  the  tank  .  What  all  med  you  had  used  till  date  in  this  tank  .

 Thanks

The  pair  of  blue  turquoise  were  about  3-1/5"  and  the  albine  around  the  same  size  the  blue  turquoise  small  was  around  2-1/5".  I  do  a  25%  water  change  every  3  days.  I  feed  them  with  freeze  dried  blood  worms,  sera  discus  feed,  dried  shrimps.  The  tank's  bottom  is  covered  with  glass  pebbles  of  various  colours.  Thanks  for  the  reply  and  kindly  advise  me  if  anything  is  lacking  in  their  care.

 Regards

 Dear  Mr.  Shiva,

Till  date  as  advised  by  the  LFS  man  I  have  not  used  any  medications  in  the  tank.  The  other  discus  are  doing  good  except  for  the  red  passion  which  is  lazy  and  is  mostly  in  the  bottom  of  the  tank.  As  regards  symptoms,  the  blue  turquoise  and  albino  3-1/2"  were  not  eating  properly  and  I  think  they  were  under  stress.  The  small  one  was  very  active  and  was  normal  but  suddenly  died.  Before  his  death,  he  was  found  swimming  flat  in  the  tank  with  jerks.  By  the  way,  I  am  V.  Rajasekar  who  contacted  you  over  phone  regarding  discus  located  at  Delhi.

 regards

You  need  to  do  more  WC  .  25%  every  three  days  is  not  sufficient  .  Try  to  do  atleast  25%  daily  .

Feeding  dried  blood  worms  somtimes  bloats  their  stomach  .  you  can  try  other  feeds  like  hikari  bio  gold  ,  tetra  bids  ,  Frozen  Artemia  ,  Hikari  frozen  blood  worms  etc  .  Why  don't  you  feed  animal  heart  ?  Are  you  Vegetarian  ?

Also  try  to  clean  the  bottom  of  the  tank  properly  ,  since  there  is  glass  pebbles  in  this  tank  ,  sometimes  their  uneaten  food  and  their  waste  gets  traps  between  them  and  hence  Ammonia  level  can  shot  up  ,  be  careful  .

 Thanks

 Hi  friends,

Thank  you  all  for  your  valuable  advices.  I  am  really  moved  by  the  concern  of  IAH  members.  As  advised  by  Mr.  Shiva,  I  have  done  a  through  check  on  amonia  and  niterate  level.  They  appeared  to  be  on  the  higher  side  nearly  0.9  to  <1.  I  transferred  the  discus  to  a  20  l  bucket  with  the  old  water  and  changed  the  rest  of  the  water  in  the  tank.  Then  I  brought  up  the  temprature  to  the  bucket  level  and  mixed  the  water  in  the  tank  little  by  little  with  thebucket  one.  Viola,  they  have  now  become  active  happy  and  moving  joyfully  in  the  thank.  Thank  you  all  once  again  for  the  immense  help.  I  owe  my  discuss  rejuvenation  to  IAH  members.

 Regards

You  need  to  be  more  careful  while  transfering  the  discus  ,  when  you  shift  the  discus  from  one  place  (  tank  )  to  another  place  (  bucket)  they  become  stressed  and  discus  may  have  other  problems  .  Stressing  the  discus  is  not  good  .  so  next  time  try  to  do  the  changes  without  shifting  the  discus  from  the  tank  .  hope  you  got  my  point  .

No  stress  to  discus  =  happy  discus  keeping  .
More  stress  to  discus  =  invitation  to  Discus  Diseases  .

 Thanks

 Hi  Shiva,

This  question  is  slightly  off  topic,  but  in  relation  to  one  of  the  suggestions  mentioned  above...

How  bad  /  difficult  is  it  to  keep  Discuss  in  a  planted  tank.  Last  months  Practical  Fish  Keeping  Magazine  had  an  entire  article  on  Discuss  in  PLanted  Tanks.  What  is  your  opinion  on  the  same.  I  also  believe  there  are  some  members  here  also  who  keep  them  in  planted  tanks...  what  has  their  experience  been?  If  this  has  been  discussed  before  kindly  direct  me.

 Thanks

 Shreyas  ,

I  have  very  little  experience  in  Discus  planted  tank  ,  but  it  has  got  more  disadvantages  when  compare  with  BB  tanks  .  As  a  Discus  breeder  when  i  have  several  tanks  ,  bare  bottom  tanks  works  best  for  me  .

To  know  more  on  Discus  Planted  tank  ,  pl  read  the  below  article  .
