Its  time  for  the  monthly  Collection  Trip  for  the  Madras  Chapter.

The  location  has  been  shifted  to  Hogenakkal.  It  is  raining  there  from  what  I  hear  but  not  too  much.  Even  if  we  do  not  land  fish  in  our  nets,  some  will  land  in  our  dinner  plates  for  sure.

 Revised  Iternary  :

The  plan  is  to  leave  at  around  3  PM  on  Friday  (12th  June)  and  reach  Hogenakkal  by  around  11  PM  (around  330  Kms).

We  need  to  leave  real  early  in  the  morning  (5  AM)  considering  Hogenakkal  is  a  huge  tourist  spot,  we  WILL  have  to  trek/walk  a  bit  to  find  spots  ideal  for  collecting.

Following  an  earlier  trip  Rahul  &  Madhu  had  made  there,  the  fauna  doesn’t  look  too  exciting  but  we  have  close  to  half  a  day  to  spend  there.  So  we  have  quite  a  bit  of  time  to  search.

I  still  say  don’t  come  with  great  expectation  please.  Any  other  inputs  from  people  who  have  collected  there  will  be  greatly  appreciated.

 Tentative  Crew  list  :

 Bala’s  Car  :

 Bala
 Rajeshwaran
 Ashwin
 Rajiv

 Prasoon’s  Car  :

 Prasoon
 Shankar
 Sai
 Myself

Any  others  who  are  interested  can  join  us  though  transportation  might  be  an  issue  considering  both  cars  are  almost  full  already.  Considering  its  pretty  close  to  Banglore,  interested  Banglore  folks  can  also  join  in.

Please  post  ASAP  with  your  confirmations  as  I  need  to  book  accommodation.

Ps  :  I  still  hope  you  like  meat  on  your  dinner  plates.

Are  you  sure  that  Bargur  is  18  kms  from  Krishnagiri?

The  Bargur  hills  is  about  15-20  kms  from  Anthiyur,  which  is  40  kms  from  Mettur,  which  is  another  110  kms  from  Krishnagiri.  I  think  we  may  be  talking  of  different  places  though.

However,  since  Gokul  has  told  you  about  Bargur,  my  guess  is  we  are  talking  of  the  same  place.   Confused

 Hi  Balaji,

After  our  telecon,  I  am  more  than  assured  that  we  are  talking  of  the  same  place.  You  are  roughly  180  kms  off  target.  Here's  the  directions  from  Google  Maps.  Follow  the  orange  line.  Couldn't  make  this  smaller  as  I  lose  out  on  details.

The  good  news  is  that  you  can  stay  in  Bhavani  or  Erode  or  even  Anthiyur  for  the  night.

Ah.  Ok.  Now  this  is  confusing.   I  have  a  feeling  I  misunderstoood  Gokul.  This  is  the  Bargur  I  assumed  :  http://maps.google.co.in/maps?hl=en&q=bargur+krishnagiri+map&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=in&ei=9UEqSrDtOc2BkQXc66HjCg&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1

and  it  obviously  seems  to  be  the  wrong  location.  2  Bargur's  in  the  same  state??  Unsure

I  am  utterly  confused....I  have  driven  the  route  that  Suraj  mentioned  a  few  months  back,...was  quite  dry  most  of  the  places

can  someone  pen  down  the  exact  route  planned?

Balaji  there's  nothing  at  the  Bargur  in  your  map.  Two  Bargur's?  you'll  find  things  like  this  often  !
I  have  been  through  this  route  to  Chennai  often,  and  never  sighted  a  water  body,  on  this  route.

You  could  however  try  your  luck  at  the  Krishnagiri  reservoir  back  waters,  but  at  this  time  of  the  year  -  zilch,  well  not  zilch,  dirty  water  and  catfish  if  you  can  get  into  the  water  past  the  PMDD.
I  collected  Rocks  at  the  dam  many  years  ago.

Plenty  of  places  with  the  same  names,  Balaji.  In  the  map  that  I  have  shown,  you  see  a  place  called  Ammapettai,  where  you  turn  left  to  Anthiyur.  I  know  of  at  least  6  other  'Ammapettai's   Chuckle   all  over  Tamil  Nadu.

I  have  driven  through  the  area  too  but  I  thought  I  had  missed  out  on  the  water  bodies.  Little  did  I  realise  it  was  another  place  altogether.

And  no  Madan.Im  not  planning  to  collect  at  the  dam.   I  have  tried  collecting  there  and  lets  just  say  I  had  to  abandon  the  net  right  away.

A  change  of  location  is  being  discussed  right  now.  Please  stay  tuned  for  an  update  and  sorry  for  the  wrong  info.   Oops

Just  got  the  following  details  from  my  cousin  who  lived  in  Anthiyur  quite  some  time  ago.  About  15-20  kms  from  Anthiyur,  you  reach  Varattupallam  dam  which  is  that  tiny  spec  of  bluish  green  below  the  circle  that  I  have  marked  (7  o'  clock).  Bargur  should  be  another  25-30  kms  up.  The  dam  should  have  some  storage  but  I  am  not  sure  how  good  the  rains  have  been  this  year.

For  Hogenekkal,  you  will  have  to  hit  Dharmapuri,  turn  off  the  highway  (9  o'  clock)  to  Pennagaram  and  drive  straight  from  there  to  Hogenekkal.

The  4-lane  highway  from  Krishnagiri  to  Dharmapuri  (60  kms)  is  in  great  condition.  The  same  cannot  be  said  about  the  remaining  journey.  Been  to  Hogenekkal  only  once  and  the  roads  seemed  to  get  worse  after  Pennanagaram.

Make  sure  you  deviate  from  the  4-lane  at  the  right  junction  out.  It  can  be  confusing  as  most  of  the  signboards  weren't  up  as  yet.

I  would  also  suggest  moving  completely  away  from  Hogenekkal  and  going  further  up  the  road  towards  Bilgundala  (not  necessarily  till  there).  This  is  just  to  avoid  tourists  and  also  to  find  favourable  fishing  spots.

 Balaji,

I'm  in.  Wherever.  And  I  do  hope  there  will  be  meat  on  our  plates  after  a  day  spent  searching  and  hopefully  collecting.

Rajiv  won't  be  in-  he  will  be  sailing  any  day  now.
