It  is  better  to  keep  only  denisoni.  They  look  awesome  in  shoal.  Try  adding  few  garra  available  from  the  same  region.Denisoni  are  tend  to  grow  faster  in  open  ponds  and  they  might  reach  around  6".

The  Chester  zoo  is  the  only  confirmed  report  of  a  spawning  in  an  aquarium.  There  have  been  several  reports  of  spawning  in  ponds.

muddassar,  a  zoo  not  far  from  me  has  had  a  breeding  of  them  but  it  was'nt  controlled  but  they  still  got  a  percentage  of  the  fry  survive.
i  know  the  aquarist  in  charge  of  the  aquaria  and  will  find  out  if  they've  done  a  controlled  setup  yet.

PostPosted: Mon Jun 22, 2009 6:19 pm Post subject: Re: denisonii Compatible Fish Reply with quote

 Hi  guys,

My  name  is  Heiko  Bleher  and  I  am  sorry  you  all  did  not  come  to  my  lectures  (also  about  Puntius  denisonii  =  which  is  the  100%  correct  spelling,  everything  else  is  not)  in  Kolkatoa  last  February.  I  will  be  again  at  the  INDAQUARIA  2010  in  Chennai  in  January,  hope  you  all  come...

Anyhow  the  following  are  the  facts:

 1.  Many  people  have  already  breed  P.  denisonii  and  in  Indonesia  now  they  breed  about  10,000  monthly.  But  in  Indonesia  only  with  hormone.  (They  say  it  goes  much  faster  and  they  can  produce  what  is  needed).

 2.  Biotopes  of  P.  denisonii  and  its  mates  you  can  see  on  my  website  under  BLEHER'S  BIOTOPES,  this  is  for  aquarium  decorations  and  mates.

 3.  In  nature  (and  for  ponds)  I  con  suggest  to  do  it  nature-like:  Fine  (beige)  sand  and  larger  rocks  with  splits  (as  they  lay  eggs  within  the  cracks  of  the  rocks),  plants  only  Cryptocoryne  spiralis  (which  grows  within  their  spawning  habitat  overhanging  the  rocks,  partly  out  of  the  water).
Mates:  Only  Devario  malabaricus,  Puntius  filamentosus  and  maybe  Garra  mullya.  It  could  also  be  another  Devario  (=Danio)  and  another  Puntius,  like  P.  mahicola  or  P.  fasciatus.

Water  should,  if  at  all,  flow  very  slowly,  they  spawn  in  bays,  still  water.

Best  regards  form  a  collector  and  writer,

Hey  sorry  about  that  Abhi,  i  was  pretty  out  of  touch  with  people  for  a  while.  Still  am  to  an  extent  but  at  least  my  phone  is  working  now.
Will  love  to  come  over  to  your  place  and  take  some  shots  of  the  pond  and  fish.
Polarizer  filter  to  the  rescue.   :)

Am  PMing  my  contacts  to  you  now.

 Mr.  Bleher,

As  his  eggs  are  getting  eaten  by  palties  &  others  becoming  white  (maybe  due  to  fungus),  whats  the  solution?
Can  Methylene  Blue  be  used?  Blue  paand  will  look  awesome.

 Hi,

for  sure  if  you  have  Platies  with  P.  denisonii  they  will  always  eat  the  eggs  and  P.  denisonii  will  not  (hardly)  fertilize  them.  You  got  the  wrong  mates  with  your  fishes.  This  is  why  I  wrote  above,  what  I  wrote.

Also,  methylene  blue  can  help,  but  is  not  the  final  answer.  The  P.  denisonii  must  be  feeling  save,  without  intruders.

 Best  regrads

 And  what's  a  Palty?

It's  Livebearers  -  Platy  Species  >  (High  Fin  Variatus  Platy)

Ah.  Platy.  Now,  if  you  had  said  that  in  the  first  place,  I  would  have  known  what  you  were  talking  about!   I  thought  you  were  using  the  local  name  of  a  type  of  fish.   Sad

Bad  news  about  the  spawn.  I  hope  they  do  it  again  and  I  hope  you  can  put  pics  up  quickly  next  time!  Thumb Up

 Thanks  for  sharing!

I  find  it  difficult  to  identify  sand,  gravel  and  fish  eggs  in  a  bucket.

Identifying  the  eggs  in  an  pond  with  algae  and  without  filtration  is  truly  a  marvelous  feat.

Nice  to  know  the  fishes  have  cooperated  and  not  eaten  all  the  eggs.

 I  wish  you  all  success.

 -----------------------------------------------------
 Hello  Mr  Trevor,

Thanks  a  lot.  But  please  I  am  not  a  hero.

Last  year  it  comes  to  my  mind  to  do  something  about  the  pond.  Because  previously  I  also  done  some  rare  Gold  fish  collection  but  unfortunately  all  are  stolen  and  I  lost  arroun  25k.  So  this  time  I  thought  to  do  something  else  and  then  I  decided  to  go  for  denisonii.  Jan-Feb  2  months  I  set  up  my  ponds  then  in  March  I  bought  1st  batch  of  12.  Now  I  have  arround  50-55  and  among  of  then  minimum  10  is  loaded.  So  this  tyme  I  will  try  my  best  to  save  the  fry.

 Thanks  again....

 Best  Regards

 Abhis

Had  you  answered  that,  I  believe  he  would  have  helped  you  long  back.   You  really  wouldn't  have  posted  a  PM  in  the  public  forum.   I  guess  this  place  is  more  mature  than  school  kid  sorta  complaints.
I  don't  find  anything  offensive  in  Yogesh's  post  either.   If  I'm  gonna  say  I've  bred  Blue  Faced  Heckels,  no  one's  gonna  believe  it  until  and  unless  I  post  pics.
