Am  sure  planted  tank  hobbyists  have  an  issue  with  hard  &  alkaline  water  all  the  time  as  most  of  the  ground  water  we  get  is  usually  hard  and  alkaline

Well  Reverse  Osmosis  is  a  very  good  option  to  those  who  can  afford  it,  but  for  the  rest  who  want  it  quick  and  cost  effective  ADA  has  the  solution.

So  how  does  be  Soft  work  and  whats  the  dosage??

 Its  very  simple

For  instance  we  use  alkaline  water
(Initial  measurement  of  10  L  of  tap  water)
 pH-  7.4
 kH  -  2  dH
 CO2  Concentration  -  4mg/L

 After  adding  be  Soft

 pH-  6.1
 kH-  1  dH
 C02  Concentration  -  16mg/L

be  Soft  reacts  with  the  Carbonates  (KH)  in  the  water  and  generates  Co2  ,  pH  starts  to  decrease  as  the  carbonate(KH)  level  starts  to  decrease. As  be  Soft  increases  the  Co2  concentration  in  the  water  ¬†it  produces  the  supplementary  benefit  of  Co2  addition.

be  Soft  contains  no  phosphates  or  nitrates  and  hence  does  not  provide  conditions  for  algae  growth.

Dosage-  1/2  capful  (3.5  ml)  for  every  20  L  of  tap  water  ,  please  remember  to  measure  KH  and  pH  of  the  water  before  adding  it  to  your  aquarium.

 Caution:-
If  be  Soft  is  added  to  an  aquarium  with  sea  sand  (containing  shells)  the  pH  will  decrease  temporarily,  but  over  a  period  of  time  revert  back  to  the  original  pH  as  the  water  has  a  buffering  affect  to  the  addition  of  any  liquid.

So  a  single  liquid  supplement  to  reduce  pH,  KH  and  increase  Co2  ¬†concentration.Voila!   All  that  for  just  Rs  310/-  only  ¬†  Thumbs Up

Do!  Aqua  provides  intelligent  yet  cost  effective  products  for  the  next  generation  hobbyists.Go  ahead  and  enjoy  your  Hobby.

 Adipo,

I  have  come  across  some  links  that  say  that  ADA  Amazonia  and  other  related  products  reduce  the  hardness  in  water,  making  it  soft.  Is  it  so?

I  have  a  4  ft  Discus  bare  tank  and  use  RO  water.  I  change  water  every  alternate  day  but  wish  to  use  my  household  water  as  its  difficult  to  change  water  so  frequently.  The  water  hardness  here  is  430ppm.  My  first  question  to  you,

 1.  Would  discus  be  fine  in  this  water?
 2.  If  not,  other  than  chemicals  are  there  any  water  softening  filters  which  are  not  as  expensive  as  RO  systems  and  don't  waste  water  like  RO?

Seeking  your  answers  to  solve  this  issue.

 Thanks!

 Hi  Hira,

Well  discus  would  do  fine  with  water  at  430ppm,but  there  may  be  issues  when  you  try  to  breed  them.

Young  discus  actually  do  better  in  hardwater  as  the  mineral  uptake  is  better.  As  for  softening  the  water  there  are  many  products  available  in  the  market  as  commercial  water  softners.

We  also  have  a  product  to  soften  water  called  do!  Aqua  RO  kit.  This  system  will  give  an  output  of  350L/day  of  soft  water.

To  use  the  RO  kit  you  need  to  purchase  the  NA  water  also  as  the  system  is  designed  to  work  in  conjunction.

 Hope  this  helps.

Hi  Adip..thanks  for  your  reply...could  u  pl  tell  me  whether  your  system  would  lower  the  TDS  or  no.  Our  water  here  has  high  TDS.  Moreover  if  you  could  let  me  know  the  cost  of  such  a  system  and  where  do  i  procure  it  in  Kolkata.

 Thanks  once  again!

 Dear  Adip.
Whats  the  normal  time  it  takes  to  lower  the  pH?  Because  sudden  change  can  creat  a  shock  for  the  inhabitats.
 Regards
 Kaushik

 Hira,

The  ADA  RO  system  will  reduce  the  TDS  definitely,  thats  the  whole  purpose  of  the  system,  makes  hard  water  soft.

For  people  who  are  with  a  low  budget  and  who  want  to  reduce  KH  we  have  Be-  soft,  works  great  am  sure  many  hobbyists  here  are  using  it  successfully.

For  details  about  the  system  in  Kolkatta  you  can  contact  the  Local  ADA  dealer  in  Kolkatta.
Please  look  in  Aqua  Design  Amano  India

 @Kaushik,

As  for  your  query  about  pH  reduction,  Be  soft  reduces  pH  almost  instantly  hence  its  not  advisable  to  use  in  aquarium  directly.  Please  mix  the  same  in  a  bucket  and  measure  pH  before  adding  it  to  your  Aquarium.

 Hi  Adip,

Will  the  usage  of  this  product  bring  the  PH  down  to  4.5  -  5  if  required?  The  reason  for  this  question  is,  I  planning  to  keep  some  wild  fish  which  require  the  menitoned  PH.  If  yes,   then  this  could  be  used  instead  of  peat  moss  right.

I  understand  that  I  would  need  to  add  this  to  the  water  and  measure  the  desired  PH.  But  would  it  bring  the  PH  down  to  what  I  want?

 Regards,
 Surya

 Hi  Surya,

I  have  been  able  to  keep  the  pH  at  4.5  to  5  in  my  altum  tank  for  a  the  last  6  months  without  any  problems  at  all.  Give  me  a  call  when  you  are  free.
