When one of my sick is ill, the IAH members suggested to give epson salt treatment. but i am not able to find immediately in my near by medical shops. and next day my fish died.
I thought we should all have some basic medicine to be kept at home so that we can give timely treatment to our fish.
Request all seniors to list those basic medicine which we might needed frequently for most common symptons (first aid box). |

I agree with Nanu. Rock salt and WC works very well.
I would also suggest keeping a bottle of "Rid-All" handy. |

Rock salt also comes as iodised these days so please make sure that the salt procured is non-iodised rock salt. That takes care of most of your fungal infection. Epsom salt is for any digestive disorder, just a flush out for all fish. Will recomend a small bottle of methlyn blue or acriflavin.
A small bottle of stress coat, comes in handy to help fish that are stressed out. Melafix is a good medicine for most open wounds and bacterial infection. Small quantity of sodium theosulphate is good to have in case you accidentally use chlorinated water to the tank.

Hello Nanu,
I have personally not researched on the topic but then a general notion is that there are aditives to the iodised salt that does not suite to fish, hence not adviceable. More over I have mentioned this on personal experience in the past which has resulted in fish mortality.

My must-haves:
1. Rock Salt + Heater (White Spot)
2. Sodium Thiosulphate (for dechlorination)
3.Potassium Permanganate (disinfection)
4. Stress Coat (General stress, acclimatization)
5. Melafix (Parasites, etc.)
6.Ammolock (temp tanks/ holding areas without major biological filtration, such as buckets)
These are the contents of my emergency cabinet.
Shall add more as it strikes me.
HTH,
Ashwin |
