The  Chennai  Chapter  of  the  IAH  is  headed  towards  Pondy  on  the  18th  (Saturday)  of  this  month  on  a  small  collection  trip.

The  plan  for  this  trip  came  from  an  earlier  trip  by  Ramkumar  (Cichlidmaniac  ;  Thread  :  http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=8125&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0).

4  people  have  confirmed  so  far  :  Prasoon,Sai,Gokul  and  myself.

   Here  s  the  plan  :

We  leave  at  3:30  AM  (sharp!!!!!)  in  Prasoon  s  car  and  hit  the  first  spot  (Kaluveli  Tank)  at  6:00  AM.  Collect  there  till  7:30  AM  and  head  for  breakfast.

At  8:00  AM,  we  head  to  Jeyaseelan  s  Plant  Farm  (Im  gonna  feel  so  outta  place  there.  I  know  it  already)  and  look  around  till  I  threaten  everyone  with  physical  harm.

The  next  plan  is  to  visit  Mr.Thomas  s  place  (around  15  kms  from  Pondy)  ¬†and  then  hit  a  water  body  very  close  to  his  place  (Chunnambu  something)  plus  a  few  other  water  bodies  around  (brackish  too).

We  collect  till  around  12  noon  and  then  break  for  lunch.  We  could  carry  on  to  hit  a  few  other  'water  bodies'  post  lunch  and  then  head  back  home.

Nothing  really  exotic  can  be  expected  from  this  trip  except  maybe  the  Horadandia  atukorali  as  mentioned  in  the  previous  trip  and  the  'dwarf  loach'  (a  L.thermalis  probably)  and  yeah,  the  Mystus.

Confirmations  need  to  come  in  ASAP  so  we  can  decide  on  further  travel  arrangements  if  the  number  increases.  Post  now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's  an  amazing  thread  by  Ramkumar.  He's  not  been  posting  much  on  IAH.  Miss  his  posts!  Btw,  is  he  coming?  Anyone  heard  of  him?

Guys  give  me  two  days  to  confirm.  But  mostly  I'll  be  coming.

 Rahul  :

Good  one  there.  Didnt  think  of  it  at  all.  Would  go  there  not  for  the  M.vittatus  but  definitely  for  the  N.athernoides.  Will  save  the  place  for  a  later  trip.

I'd  go  there  just  for  that.

There  is  some  doubt  as  to  whether  the  fish  we  call  M.  vittatus  is  actually  the  real  deal.

The  fish  was  described  from  TN,  there  is  some  confusion  as  to  whether  the  M.  tengara  from  the  gangetic  basin  is  a  distinct  species  or  a  synonym.  You  also  get  fish  from  the  gangetic  basin  under  the  vittatus  name.  Would  be  good  to  compare  live  specimens.

So  Mystus  tengara  could  become  a  junior  synonym  of  M.vittatus  and  be  replaced  by  M.carcio  then???
