 Hi,

coral_draw  had  PMed  me  as  he  could  not  find  Microsol-B  regarding  rolling  your  own  PMDD.

Here's  what  I  used  in  the  good  old  days.  Highly  inconvenient.

 Micronutrients  needed:

 Fe-EDTA  (  C10H12FeN2NO3  )
 Manganese  Sulphate  (  MnSO4.H2O)
 Copper  Sulphate  (  CuSO4.5H2O  )
 Zinc  Sulphate  (  ZnSO4.7H2O  )
 Magnesium  Sulphate  (  MgSO4.7H2O  )
 Boric  Acid  (  H3BO3  )
 Sodium  Molybdate  (  Na2MoO4.2H2O  )
 Hydrochloric  Acid  N/10  -  HCl

The  Above  Chemicals  to  be  dissolved  in  ONE  Liter  of  water  in  the  weights  given  below  to  give  you  ONE  Liter  of  PMDD.

 Fe-EDTA  =  Approx  15  gms.
 Manganese  Sulphate  1.5  gms
 Magnesium  Sulphate  =  40  gms
 Zinc  Sulphate  =  0.5  gms
 Copper  Sulphate  =  0.1  gms
 Sodium  Molybdate  =  0.125  gms
 Boric  Acid  =  1.5  gms
 Hydro  Chloric  acid  N/10  =  5  ml.

This  One  Liter  of  PMDD  is  to  be  dosed  at  1ml  per  280  liters  of  Aquarium  water.  Fine  tuning  can  be  done  by  watching  the  plants  and  increasing  or  decreasing  the  dosage  after  a  few  weeks.

 Macro  Nutrients  Needed:

 Potassium  Nitrate  (  KNO3  )
 Potassium  Sulphate  (  K2SO4  )
 Potassium  di-hydrogen  Phosphate  (  KH2PO4  )

The  above  Chemicals  will  cost  Rs.3000/-  Plus.  Keep  this  in  Mind.

Macronutrient  Dosage  instructions  and  calculator  for  same  can  be  down  loaded  from  here:

   Chuck  Gadd's  calculator.

 Hi  Elaine,

I  am  posting  from  Venket's  place.

The  solution  can  be  stored  indefinitely  as  long  it  is  kept  in  a  cool  dark  place.

 Hi  Madan,

Thanks  for  the  details  you  have  provided.  I  got  very  much  frustrated  by  not  able  to  find  microsol-B.
I  have  tried  a  lot  to  find  it,  but  was  not  able  to  find  it  that’s  why  I  have  asked  for  the  chemicals.
After  looking  your  post  I  thought  it  is  better  to  find  Microsol-B  rather  than  getting  these  chemicals.  Getting  these  chemicals  is  not  a  big  problem  but  first  mixing  them  in  that  small  quantity  is  a  big  problem  &  second  not  body  is  giving  each  chemical  less  than  100  gms.

But  anyway  I  have  got  Microsol-B  today.  Will  start  dosing  from  tomorrow.

Bhaskar,  I  know  how  difficult  it  is  to  buy  these  chemicals.

That's  why  I  was  happy  to  find  Microsol-B.

But  when  people  kept  on  posting  that  Microsol-B  was  very  difficult  to  find,  I  decided  to  post  the  list  of  Chemicals  and  the  weights  to  be  added  for  making  PMDD,  just  in  case!

Microsol-B  is  the  easiest  way  to  mix  your  PMDD.

Both  the  below  chemicals  are  available  in  Industrial  Grade  and  Lab  Grade.   Which  one  is  ideal  and  reason  for  it?

Chemical  Grades  -  from  highest  to  lowest

Reagent  /  A.C.S.  -  This  designates  an  ultra-high  purity  chemical  for  laboratory  use.  The  abbreviation  "A.C.S.,"  means  the  chemical  meets  the  specifications  of  the  American  Chemical  Society.  This  grade  is  the  highest  level  of  chemical  purity.

AR  -  A  standard  grade  of  analytical  reagents;  suitable  for  laboratory  and  general  use.  If  the  reagent  also  meets  the  requirements  of  the  American  Chemical  Society  Committee  on  Analytical  Reagent,  it  will  be  denoted  as  an  AR  (ACS)  reagent.

Primary  Standard  -  Analytical  reagent  of  very  high  purity  that  is  specially  manufactured  for  standardizing  volumetric  solutions  and  preparing  reference  standards.

Reagent  -  This  designates  an  extremely  high  quality  chemical  for  laboratory  use

OR  -  Organic  reagents  that  are  suitable  for  research  applications.

USP  -  Pharmaceutical  grade.  This  grade  meets  the  requirements  of  the  U.S.  Pharmacopoeia.

Purified  -  Defines  chemicals  of  good  quality  where  there  are  no  official  standards.  This  grade  is  usually  limited  to  inorganic  chemicals.

Practical  -  Defines  chemicals  of  good  quality  where  there  are  no  official  standards.  Suitable  for  use  in  general  applications.  Practical  grade  chemicals  may  contain  small  amounts  of  impurities.

Lab  Grade  -  Defines  chemicals  of  reasonable  quality  and  are  suitable  for  use  in  applications  where  chemical  purity  is  not  critical.  Lab  grade  chemicals  may  contain  small  amounts  of  impurities.

NF  -  Chemicals  that  meet  the  requirements  of  the  National  Formulary.  They  are  suitable  for  use  in  applications  where  chemical  purity  is  not  critical.  NF  grade  chemicals  may  contain  moderate  amounts  of  impurities.

CP  -  Chemically  Pure  grade.  Products  of  purity  suitable  for  use  in  general  industrial  applications  where  high  purity  is  not  an  issue.  Generally  not  suitable  for  laboratory  work  or  experimentation.

Technical  or  Industrial-  A  low  grade  of  chemical  suitable  for  industrial  use.  Generally  not  suitable  for  laboratory  work  or  experimentation.

Pyrotechnic/Pyro  -  A  low  grade  of  chemical  only  suitable  for  use  in  fireworks  and  some  industrial  applications.  May  contain  large  amounts  of  impurities.  Not  suitable  for  any  laboratory  work  or  experimentation.

Hope  this  makes  it  clear,  Lab  Grade  is  higher  in  quality  than  Industrial  Grade.

 Regards

 Sujoy
