Hi  All

I'm  Santosh  working  for  a  software  company  in  Admin.  I  live  in  Mumbai  suburbs.

I  took  up  having  aquarium  when  we  moved  into  a  new  house.  Buying  the  aquarium  was  a  part  of  home  vastu  then.  But  by  now  these  fishes  give  me  peace  of  mind  for  hours.

Well  I  have  a  diamond  shaped  aquarium  26x12x21x12x26"  height  18",  holds  a  lot  of  water  and  fishes.  I  have  4gold  fish  1  and  1/2  year  old  each  approx  7-8  inches.  Others  in  my  tank  are  2  dollars,  3  angels,  4  skirt  tetra,  and  13  hockey  sticks  (that's  what  the  shopkeeper  told  me  while  selling  it).

Last  Thursday  I  found  angel  fish  eggs  on  the  aquarium  filter  with  two  of  the  parents  guarding  it.  Suddenly  on  Friday  I  found  them  missing.  Can  someone  help  me  understand  what  would  have  happened.

 Regards
 Santosh

 Sorry  was  not  posted  properly
 Hi  santosh

Not  sure,  but  might  be  other  fishes  have  eaten  the  eggs  or  have  got  stuck  in  the  filter.
By  the  way  i  am  interested   and  planning  to  make  a  diamond  shape  tank,  would  like  to  see  your  tank.  Why  dont  u  take  some  pictures  of  your  tank  from  different  angles  and  post.  Do  vist  my  topic  in  the  Forum  "Marine  fishs"  and  have  look  into  my  plans.

 Do  reply
 Thanks

Hi  all  I  am  Rakesh  from  Bangalore.  I  am  a  student  doing  my  graduation.
I  have  7  aquariums  out  of  which  6  are  planted  and  1  Flower  horn  Tank.  Currently  4-planted  tanks  are  in  nuked  state  because  of  parasites  like  leach  and  hydra.

All  my  tanks  a  lighted  by  CFLs.

I  am  interested  in  planted  tanks.  I  am  interested  in  DIY  I  have  managed  to  make  a  couple  of  things  like  aquariums,  wooden  hoods,  CO2,  made  my  own  substrate  for  one  of  my  tank,  took  a  risk  and  made  an  aquarium  with  crystal  clear  glass  not  a  big  one  just  2’  x  1’  x  15”.  Very  interested  in  finding  cheap  but  highly  effective  alternatives  to  "Aquarium  Goods"  as  Madan  told.

I  am  currently  having  1  flower  horn   2  discus,  4  cardinals,  2  angels,  6  diamond  tetras,  6  silver  tip  tetras,  3  male  betas,  5  female  betas,  some  guppies,  some  cherry  red  shrimps  and  some  wood  shrimps.

I  am  planning  to  get  some  crystal  red  shrimps  and  bee  shrimps.  And  also  collect  how  many  ever  plants  I  can.

As  I  have  joined  this  community  I  feel  lucky  that  I  can  talk  to  a  lot  of  people  who  can  help  me  &  clear  my  doubts.

I  am  Jayant  and  live  in  Pune.

I  used  to  pass  through  Singapore  Changi  airport  many  times  and  was  always  fascinated  by  the  Koi  pond  they  have  in  the  airport  terminal.

So  when  I  got  a  chance,  I  recently  (2  months  ago)  built  a  2500  liter  outdoor  pond  with  a  water  depth  of  max  17".  I  know  it's  probably  not  deep  enough,  but  I  can't  afford  it  any  deeper  as  I  have  kids  at  home.  It's  made  of  "ferrocrete".  It  has  biological  filter,  a  UV  filter  and  a  fountain  for  aeration.  It's  an  odd  shaped  pond  (semicircular  with  a  rectangular  deck  in  the  middle).  The  pump/fountain  is  on  one  end  and  the  filter  is  on  the  other.  This  gives  me  good  amount  of  circulation.  It  currently  has  4  Koi  (8"  each),  4  plecos  (2"  each),  three  water  lily  plants  and  a  bunch  of  tiny  damselfly  larvae  (adding  of  lily  plants  couple  weeks  ago  caused  these  guys  to  appear).  I  added  the  plecos  since  I  saw  some  algae  growth  at  the  plant  bottom  few  weeks  ago.  I  don't  really  see  the  plecos  -  other  than  one  or  two  occasionally,  but  the  pond  bottom  is  fairly  free  of  algae,  so  I  assume  that  they're  still  alive!  My  Koi  don't  seem  interested  in  eating  the  larvae,  but  since  these  damselfly  larvae  are  predators  for  mosquito  larvae  (and  adult  damselflies  eat  adult  mosquitoes),  I  am  not  complaining.  I  am  adding  couple  more  water  lilies  and  2-4  more  Koi's,  possibly  Kohaku  in  the  next  month  or  two.  So  the  pond  ecosystem  is  not  yet  stable,  but  so  far  so  good!

I  am  looking  for  Koi  keepers  to  share  experiences,  and  possibly  visit  other  Koi  ponds  in  Pune  or  Mumbai.

 Regards.

 Hi  All
My  name  is  Sohan,  Mechanical  engineer  by  profession  working  for  a  refinery  in  Mangalore,  MRPL  ONGC.
I  am  a  new  member,  in  fact  not  even  a  day  old!
I  am  a  Mangalorean  who  is  keen  on  setting  up  a  new  fresh  water  aquarium.  Plan  to  have  an  aqaurium  of  about  2.5feet  to  3  feet  long  one.  Plan  to  go  for  hard  fishes  -  chicks  and  subsequently  on  stabilsation  of  the  aquarium  for  the  parrots  and  arrowana.
I  was  trying  to  look  for  info  on  moulded  aquariums  versus  normal  ones,  couldn't  find  much  info  even  in  the  forum  using  the  search  option.
Other  than  the  cost  difference  and  aesthectics  what  are  the  other  advantages/disadvantages  in  going  for  a  branded  moulded  aquarium  with  cabinets?  My  budget  is  Rs20,000  -  final  landed  cost.  Which  one  should  I  go  for?
 Warm  Regards,
 Sohan

 Hi,

I  am  Benjamin.  I  am  working  in  Marketing.

I  have  been  keeping  fish  ever  since  I  can  remember,  and  was  very  keen  on  wildforms  of  lifebearers.  However,  after  shifting  to  India,  I  realized  that  the  local  fishes  are  what  I  really  want  to  look  into.  I  am  really  fond  of  snakeheads  and  halfbeaks,  as  well  as  all  the  oddballs,  such  as  pipefish,  puffers,  large  cats,  etc.

I  was  born  and  brought  up  in  Germany,  where  temperature  and  high  costs  did  not  allow  me  to  look  into  the  larger  fish  species,  which  I  can  finally  do.

I  currently  have  two  smaller  aquariums,  but  am  planning  for  a  big  one  in  the  next  weeks.  If  you  have  any  suggestions,  where  to  get  good  and  cheap  aquariums,  local  fish  and  above  all  life  food  in  bangalore,  I  am  really  thankful  for  any  help  and  advice.  I  know  a  bunch  of  shops  in  Shuvajinagar,  near  to  the  bus  stand  and  Russel  market,  but  nobody  was  able  to  suplly  snakeheads,  maybe  also  because  I  do  not  know  the  local  names  they  go  by.

I  am  hoping  to  meet  some  of  you  guys  to  exchange  breeding  and  keeping  informations  as  well  to  finally  get  my  hand  on  some  nice  snakeheads.

 Thanks  in  advance  and  regards

 ben

Hi  Ben,  could  you  please  update  your  location  in  your  profile?  I'm  assuming  Bangalore?

You'll  get  a  lot  more  help  from  local  hobbyists  that  way.

 Hello  Everyone,

Im  Jiten  and  currently  (i  guess  forever)  am  addicted  to  the  new  hobby  of  having  fishes  as  pet.  Born  and  brought  up  in  bombay.

What  started  as  a  small  birthday  gift  of  two  gold  fishes  this  march,  ended  up  with  me  now  having  almost  7  tanks.  big  and  small  and  Various  types  of  fishes.

Sadly  one  of  the  two  gold  fish  died  and  then  i  searched  the  net  for  information  and  found  so  many  unknown  facts  about  the  beautiful  creatures.  First  thing  i  did  was  move  the  single  gold  fish  from  the  bowl  to  a  proper  tank  and  today  it  has  8  more  companions,  with  two  suckers  and  two  apple  snails......  i  made  sure  the  tank  i  large.

The  other  fishes  that  i  have  are
 one  tank  with  Malwai  Cichlids,
one  tank  with  pair  of  breeding  oscars,
one  tank  with  7  inches  black  ghost,  a  neon  akara  and  pink  skirt  black  widow,
one  tank  with  Discus  (various  sizes)  12  in  total
other  tank  with  one  black  ghost,  a  sevrum,  3  ramerizes  blue,  few  zebra's,  1  red  tail  shark  and  1  rainbow  shark,  4  ramirezi  gold,  3  suckers....  did  i  miss  any   Eyebrow
and  3  bowls  with  bettas  in  each  and  two  gouramis.  WHEW.....  i  know,  i  have  got  so  many.....  i  didnt  realize  it  that  how  i  got  obsessed  with  fishes.

And  im  in  love  with  my  Discus  fishes.......

Unfortunately,  there  have  been  few  unwanted  deaths,  as  the  fish  sellers  didnt  give  proper  info,  i  grieve  for  the  death  of  my  beautiful  puffers,  scat  fish,  few  of  cichilds,  and  had  to  give  away  few  to  other  friends.

Well,  have  been  duped  a  lot  by  the  shops  and  realised  the  misinformation  provided  by  them  even  for  something  as  improtant  as  filters.  I  am  still  researching  whats  the  best  for  my  fishes,  especially  filters......

this  is  my  intro  and  really  appreciate  the  effort  taken  by  the  moderators  and  the  brains  behind  this  site.
