Hey  nikhil,  if  you  are  planning  on  a  driftwood  collection  trip,  lemme  know.  I  too  am  looking  for  some...  Ive  not  seen  the  branchy  type  of  driftwood  out  here  in  Mumbai.

Absolutely,  although  I  am  not  quite  sure  where  we  would  find  good  ones  here  in  Bombay;  so  need  to  ask  the  experts  on  that  one.  But  yes  ,  I  am  keen  on  doing  this  trip  asap.  If  you  happen  to  know  of  any  places,  we  could  even  do  it  over  the  weekend  ?

Also  on  a  side  note,  I  have  seen  the  branchy  ones  for  sale  but  at  exorbitant  prices  at  Crawford  and  its  so  totally  not  worth  it  when  one  can  just  go  and  pick  up  good  ones  on  exploring  the  natural  habitats  a  little.

There's  only  one  person  who  can  help  you  in  this  matter,  the  one  person  we  amateurs  turn  to  in  time  of  need,  the  Genghis  Khan  of  the  Aquatic  world,  the  piscean  king  kong  -  GATORX,  president  &  chairman  emeritus  M.A.S.

So  dedicated  is  our  M.A.S  chairman  that  he  literally  threw  away  his  computer  to  make  space  for  another  tank.  But  he  somehow  mysteriously  manages  to  keep  an  eye  here  and  knows  every  little  thing  that  goes  on.  Seek  him  and  he  shall  find  you.

But  doesn't  a  BB  tank  instigate  the  dreaded  'drop  eye'  ?

there  are  many  theories  in  regard  to  the  drop  eye,  but  for  a  jardini  to  get  drop  eye  it  has  to  either  keep  banging  its  head  to  the  glass  or  the  hood,  like  it  was  in  my  case,  but  all  in  all  the  jardini  doesn't  get  drop  eye  as  often  as  the  silvers.

Any  suggestions  on  the  filter  ?  Also  on  the  decorations  ?

i  keep  two  top  filters  can't  afford  canister  filters,  my  tank  is  a  180g  with  a  filtration  rate  of  2000lts  per  hour  on  each  of  the  top  filters,  of  which  one  is  a  biological  filter  and  the  other  is  a  chemical  filter.

as  to  decoration  do  not  go  with  any  branchy  driftwood  as  suggested  by  so  many  people,  although  i  do  agree  it  will  look  good  in  a  tank,  but  for  the  safety  of  your  fish  its  a  bad  idea,  as  these  guys  are  very  very  skittish  and  as  they  get  to  8-10"  their  skittishness  increases  and  by  the  time  they  get  to  16-18"  they  will  subside  and  get  more  calm  and  docile  and  might  even  get  interactive

in  my  tank  i  have  one  log,  and  two  terracotta  pots  for  the  synos  and  the  little  bumble  bee  catfish  to  hide.  other  than  that  nothing  else,  also  for  the  hood  i  have  a  pine  wood  hood  which  is  quite  heavy  as  these  guys  are  strong,  my  previous  jardini  at  20"  used  to  add  scratches  to  the  glass  when  he  used  to  get  excited  and  bang  the  glass  at  feeding  times.

and  as  to  weylin  being  mysterious  Razz,  its  just  like  all  of  us,  he  is  LAZY  and  some  ones  gotta  drag  him  to  the  nearest  laptop  service  centre

here  is  an  ole  pic  of  my  tank.

not  much  has  changed  since  then,  except  for  some  more  of  that  black  chip  gravel  and  the  jardini  that  was  living  in  it.  now  the  whole  bottom  is  covered  with  the  gravel,  i  do  so  not  because  i  believe  that  bare  bottom  tanks  cause  drop  eye  but  because  the  i  like  the  black  chips  in  my  tanks,  and  thus  many  of  my  tanks  have  those  black  chips

i  quite  like  your  tank....its  pretty  basic  but  at  the  same  time  its  got  some  character  too...

does  the  arro  trouble  the  other  tank  mates.  from  what  i  have  heard,  pearls  are  relatively  more  aggressive  than  your  avg  silver  so  hence  the  question.  ideal  tankmates  would  be  ?

Thanks  for  the  input  though..might  incorporate  one  or  two  ideas  Smile
