You  want  to  ditch  the  skimmer  and  use  TAS?

This  has  worked  for  some  and  has  not  for  some.  Also  a  lot  is  dependent  on  how  accurately  you  set  it  up  and  the  Lighting,  flow  rate  etc.  Also  it  needs  to  be  cleaned  every  7  days, etc.  Overall  as  compared  to  the  skimmer  it  looks  kinda  unstable  to  me.  Skimmer  atleast  i  am  sure  is  proven  and  will  work.

The  only  person  i  personally  know  for  whom  this  has  worked  in  india  is  weylin.  I  know  atleast  1000  for  whom  a  skimmer  is  working  fine   and  pretty  effective.

But  i  feel  no  harm  in  trying  and  checking,  it  may  just  work  and  then  there  is  a  fun  aspect  to  doing  DIY   and  creating  something  for  yourself.

 Warm  Regards

I  have  seen  people  fighting  Turf  Algae  growing  on  their  sand  and  sudden  spike  in  hair  algae.  I  would  rather  slean  my  skimmer  every  week  than  to  be  cleaning  and  worrying  about  TAS.  Nothing  wrong  in  trying.
