i  think  there  would  be  a  requirement  of  brass  ones  for  a  hobbyist  to  fotograph  those  expensive  beauties  in  that  fashion

but  on  a  serious  note  quite  indigenous  way

would  this  not  hurt  the  fishes..  I've  experienced  how  sharp  and  rough  their  scales  are..  laying  them  in  such  a  fashion  would  harm  them  for  sure..  this  is  my  opinion...

This  is  the  standard  way  that  exporters  send  out  photos  to  their  customers  just  before  shipping  it  to  them.  Nothing  shocking  about  it.

At  least  those  discus  should  feel  lucky  to  be  in  the  water   ;-)
This  is  more  traditional  way  of  photography  before  shipment.

This   is   the   standard   way   that   exporters   send   out   photos   to   their   customers   just   before   shipping   it   to   them.   Nothing   shocking   about   it.

I  fully  agree  with  Beta  ,  this  is  normal  .  The  breeders  who  photographs  such   discus  are  Professionals  ,  and  they  will  never  ever  do  things  which  will  harm  their  discus   .
What  I  understand  before  packing  for  export  they  dose  their  discus  with  Fish  Stabilizer  ,  due  to  which  the  discus  become  semi-unconcious  (  for  few  hrs  )   ,  due  to  this  the  discus  will  not  be  in  stress  during  transport  and  also   utilize  less  oxygen  .
So  imagine  when  Discus  are  in  that  state  ,  they  are  flat  in  water   ,  and  you  can  arrange  them  in  water  what  ever   manner  you  want  for  taking  photographs  (  before  final  packing  )  .  These  discus  are  A  grade  discus  and  very  expensive  ,  and  the  discus  are  arranged  that  manner  only  to  take  photographs  .  Most  of  the  time  the  importer  requests  the  breeders  to  photograph  their  discus  .This  is  called  bucket  shot  .

 Thanks

The  Discus  were  so  well  arranged,  I  feel  they  could  be  sedated.
