 Hi  Friends,

Just  wanted  to  request  you  friends  to  kindly  guide  me  on  which  veggies  are  suitable  and  most  liked  by  Bristle  Nose  Plecos.  I  have  to  feed  my  plecos  and  my  algae  wafers  are  over  -  cant  really  buy  another  pack  for  atleast  a  month  so  I  thought  I'll  feed  them  veggies  instead.  Kindly  guide  me  friends...

Will  a  Slice  of  Potato  -  added  to  the  tank  after  the  lights  are  off  do  ?

 Thanks  and  Regards
 Kush

 Dear  Kush,

Try  spinach  (palak)  and  cucumber.  I  had  a  pleco  who  enjoyed  eating  that.  They  are  also  supposed  to  be  fond  of  other  green  leafy  vegetables,  sweet  potato  and  even  peas  and  beans  (skinned  and  blanched).
They  are  also  supposed  to  eat  fleshy  fruit.  Try  some  (without  the  skin)  and  see  what  your  pleco  enjoys.

It  would  be  better  if  you  blanch  the  vegetable  first  i.e.  microwave  it  in  a  cup  of  water  for  1  minute,  or  leave  it  in  boiling  water  for  5-10  minutes.  That  softens  it  and  makes  it  easier  to  eat  and  digest.

As  they  are  bottom  dwellers,  you  could  tie  the  food  with  a  rubber  band  or  string  to  a  pebble/rock  or  driftwood  so  that  the  food  will  remain  at  the  bottom  of  the  tank  and  easier  to  find.

Also,  a  piece  of  driftwood  is  what  many  recommend  for  plecos  to  chew  on.  I  read  one  article  that  says  that  they  get  a  certain  mineral  from  the  driftwood  that  is  good  for  them.

And  you're  right  about  adding  the  food  to  the  tank  in  the  dark,  at  night;  plecos  are  nocturnal  animals.  Also,  with  the  other  fish  'asleep'  your  pleco  will  have  a  better  access  to  the  food!   Smile

 regards

 aquamate

Go  easy  on  the  palak.  Not  very  nutritious.  Mine  get  cucumber,  carrots,  sweet  potatoes,  the  odd  palak  or  cabbage  leaf,  capsicum,  pumpkins,  melons,  peas  and  shrimp  mix.

 Mine  don't  like  beans.

Sweet  potatoes  should  be  avoided  however  nutritious.  The  plecos  could  blast  your  tank.   Chuckle

i  include  prawn  once  in  a  week  and  also  keep  drift  wood  in  the  tank  as  the  wood  also  should  constitute  their  diet
