 Hi  guys,

im  from  the  UK  and  keep  a  freshwater  planted  tank  and  a  Reef  tank.

here  is  a  pic  and  video  of  my  planted  tank.  The  inhabitants  are  mostly  Rainbows  and  India's  very  own  fish  superstar  'Miss  Kerala'  or  Puntius  denisoni.  They  are  pretty  expensive  over  here  between  Rupee  equivalent  750-1200  each.

It  is  great  to  seem  some  really  nice  planted  tanks  over  in  India,  i  did  wonder  what  it  is  like  to  get  euipment  over  there.  Is  the  hobby  thriving?  Are  there  lots  of  outlet  stores?

Here  is  my  setup,  not  nearly  as  nice  as  some  of  yours:

 Welcome  to  IAH!

That's  a  nice  looking  tank!  Can  you  provide  more  details  of  the  tank  specs,  filteration,  lights  etc?

 Thanks  Prem,

but  im  looking  at  yours  in  your  sig,  its  amazing!!!

I  had  a  lawn  of  dwarf  hair  grass  and  Blyxa  japinoca  where  you  now  see  bare  substrate,  my  denisoni  barbs  and  several  of  the  rainbowfish  pulled  it  up  and  ate  it  overtime.  I  do  feed  them  a  vegetable  based  flake  and  frozen  food  but  still  they  eat  some  of  the  finer  softer  leaved  plants.  The  tank  flora  has  evolved  overtime,  there  wer  intitially  far  more  stem  plants,  but  has  gradually  been  supplanted  by  various  species  of  crypts  in  the  main.

 Ok  for  the  tank:

 Size:  96"x24"x24"

Lighting:  by  216W  of  T5  and  72W  LED  (TMC  Aquarays).  It  used  to  be  432W  T5.   T5  is  on  for  8  hours,  LED  on  for  10hours  with  sunrise  and  sunset  controller.

Heat:2x300w  heaters  (its  cold  here  in  winter)  at  77F/24C.

Filtration:  I  use  4x  external  filters  and  a  Koralia  powerhead  to  give  me  approx  x10  turnover  per  hour.  The  filters  are  an  Eheim  2080,  Fluval  Fx5  and  two  Tetratec  1200s

C02:  via  x2  5kg  C02  canisters  timed  to  come  on  2hours  before  main  lighting  period  and  off  two  hours  before  lights  out.

 Substrate:  ADA  Aquasoil  Malaya.

One  think  i  dont  like  about  this  substrate  is  that  it  is  very  light.  This  is  one  reason  i  lost  a  lot  of  my  foreground  planting  of  Elocharis  parva,  Glosso  and  Blyxa.  The  fish  tug  a  little  and  it  is  pulled  up.   Shocked

When  i  do  a  re-scape  I  will  probably  use  a  fine  substrate  like  JBL  aquabasis  and  overlay  it  with  silica  sand.

Thanks!  Thats  a  old  set  up  in  my  signature.  I  have  rescaped  the  tank  now,  should  be  ready  for  a  photo  in  a  month  or  so!

I  had  to  give  up  on  keeping  native  beauties  as  they  kept  eating  the  fine  leaved  plants.  Thats  a  lot  of  filteration  you  got.

If  possible  post  a  full  frontal  tank  shot  and  also  a  picture  of  the  LED  lights.

It  is  difficult  to  get  all  8ft  in  the  shot  straight  on,  only  at  an  angle,  but  will  try  again.  Finding  it  hard  to  get  non  blurred  fish.  Sad

Hi  Sanj  -  Excellent  Looking  Tank  Buddy   Thumb Up

To  answer  your  questions  in  the  first  post  ..........  Yes  the  hobby  is  not  only  thriving  but  growing  by  leaps  and  bounds  as  well  ..........  A  lot  of  interest  is  around  planted  tanks  ....  Last  year  we  had  Takashi  Amano  in  India  to  be  a  part  of  the  annual  event  "AQUATIKA  09"  and  we  had  64  entries  for  IAPLC  2009  from  India  compared  to  single  digits  in  2008  .....  just  to  give  you  an  idea   Smile

There  are  some  quality  LFS  who  can  get  pretty  much  anything  required  ......  things  are  not  as  difficult  as  it  was  just  a  few  years  ago  .....  hope  this  answers  your  queries.

Welcome  to  the  Forum  ......  Enjoy  Your  Stay  and  a  Very  Happy  New  year  to  you  !!!
