 Hi  everyone,
Well  after  a  week  long  of  deciding  and  zeroing  in  on  a  place  we  the  Aquarium  hobbyists  of  Hyderabad  group  decided  to  go  on  a  collectin  trip  to  himayatsagar  and  osmansagar.
The  memebers  who  turned  up  for  the  trip  were
Dev,  Saad,  Faisal,  Ganesh  and  his  wife  Vidya,  and  yours  truly.
As  decided  Dev,  Faisal  and  Saad  came  up  to  my  place  at  sharp  6am.  Me  and  Saad  had  been  awake  the  previous  night  and  were  not  in  much  of  the  mood  to  go.  Dev  somehow  coaxed  us  and  we  started.
We  had  planned  to  first  go  to  the  Himayatsagar  lake  and  then  to  the  Osmansagar.
After  an  hours  drive  on  our  bikes  we  reached  the  place.  We  met  up  with  Ganesh  and  his  wife  at  himayatsagar.  Did  a  reccee  of  the  lake  in  a  few  minutes.
Then  Saad  put  his  net  in  one  of  the  shore  areas  of  the  lake  and  Bingo  out  came  a  Channa  striata.
A  few  more  hands  there  and  we  collected  around  4  channa's  there,   then  saw  a  small  puddle  where  there  appeared  to  be  no  life  except  some   ghost  shrimps.
The  puddle  was  not  even  6"  deep.
Tried  a  hand  at  it  just  for  fun  and  out  came  channa  striata.
Surprised  we  tried  a  few  more  hands  and  ended  up  in  collecting  11  channas  from  the  puddle  which  was  just  around  6"  deep  and  4ft  wide.
Saw  another  puddle  nearby  and  checked  out  there  and  came  out  a  goby  alonog  with  another  Striata.  On  moving  further  we  came  across  a  large  patch  of  collected  water  which  got  disconnected  from  the  lake  due  to  the  drying  up.
We  could  see  lots  of  Gambusia  there.  Dev  wanted  some  of  those  as  to  use  as  feeders.
So  we  moved  in  with  a  large  mosquito  net  and  gave  it  a  swipe  and  collected  around  a  100  fish  in  a  single  swipe.  On  inspecting  closely  we  saw  something  shining  golden  along  with  the  fish,  and  out  came  a  Chande  Ranga.  The  Chanda  ranga  endemic  to  this  lake   have  a  golden  shade  on  their  body  unlike  their  normal  drab  coloured  counterparts.  Did  a  few  more  swipes  and  came  in  some  more  fish.  Some   Bi-mcaulatus  and  some  tin  foil  barbs  came  in  along  with  the  Gambusia.
Then  we  moved  a  few  feet  away  and  used  a  hand  net  for  collecting  shrimps  to  be  used  as  feeders  and  out  came  the  fish  which  we  had  least  expected.  We  had  been  searching  for  this  fish  for  almost  6  months  but  it  had  appeared  to  have  vanished  out  of  the  local  water  bodies.  This  was  the  E.mcaulatus  a.k.a  the  orange  chromide.  Since  we  got  one  fish  we  thought  there  might  be  some  more  available  and  tried  our  hand  nets  and  collected  around  60-70  E.maculatus  (i  wish  we  even  get  E.canarensis  like  this   Very Happy   )  .  There  was  a  point  where  we  ended  up  collecting  11  fo  these  beauties  in  a  single  swipe.  These  buggers   are  just  1.5"  in  size.  Appear  to  be  from  the  same  spawn.  The  reason  we  collected  so  many  was  we  could  house  them  instead  of  wasting  them.  The  place  where  they  were  thriving  would  dry  up  soon  and  if  we  left  them  in  the  lake  they  would  get  caught  in  the  fishermens  net  die  and  be  thrown  away  as  these  arent  of  any  use  to  the  fishermen.
The  E.maculatus  were  the  prize  collection  of  todays  trip.
 Attaching  a  few  pics

 the  E.maculatus  habitat,
the  muddy  waters  show  that  the  macs  are  capable  of  living  in  oxygen  depleted  waters

 the  gambusia

 the  E.maculatus

 from  left  to  right,
Faisal,  Saad(showin  his  32   Very Happy  ),  Dev(with  a  piece  of  drift  wood  he  found,  Ganesh  and  upfront  urs  truly,

 Njoy  Drinking

If  you  are  talking  about  the  barbs  in  the  net,  they  are  Puntius  conchonius  a.k.a  Rosy  barbs.

Thats  a  yummy  collection,  esp  macs,  I  hope  they  get  properly  housed.

But  guys,  whats  the  victory  gesture  for?  seems  a  bit  odd,  even  less  people  turned  up  than  expected.

BTW,  got  any  plants  from  there?
