 Hi  everyone..

After  nearly  5  months  of  dilly  dallying  I  was  able  to  setup  my  Malawi  Cichlid  tank  last  night.  The  Tank  is  a  5  feet  by  1.5  feet  by  2  feet  tank  which  is  placed  in  my  dining  room.  The  following  are  the  specs:

 Filteration  :  1  x  eheim  2327
                         1  x  Internal  filter  (1800l/h)
                         1  x  HOB  (600  l/h)
Might  add  an  eheim  2217  in  the  future  if  I  feel  the  need  for  it.

 Substrate  :  River  Sand

Decor  :  Rocks  and  a  small  toy  boat  ornament  (my  dad  wouldnt  let  me  remove  it!!)

 lighting  :  2  x  55  watt  T5

Stocking  List  :  6  Blue  Dolphins
                              8  Orange  Morphs
                              8  Scolofis
                              4  unknown  peacocks
                              8  Yellow  Labs

Have  painted  the  background  black  in  order  to  add  some  depth  and  highlight  the  colors  of  the  fish.  Am  not  best  pleased  with  the  stones  but  was  not  able  to  source  any  river  stones  at  the  moment  so  decided  to  go  ahead  with  it.

Would  like  to  thank  Prabhu,  Vyas,  Umashankar  and  a  host  of  other  people  who  guided  me.

Here  are  some  pics  I  took  Last  night  before  adding  the  water...Will  post  more  in  a  couple  of  days  once  I  get  Internet  Installed  in  my  new  place....

Vpul,  if  you  don’t  mind,  a  suggestion,  please  arrange  stones  in  some  artistic  way  so  that  they  can  give  a  unique  look  to  aquarium.  These  are  looking  like  a  heap  of  stones  as  we  can  see  at  construction  site.
 Sorry  for  this  comment.

Make  stone  arrangement  like  caves  so  that  cichlids  can  get  hiding  spot...and  make  sure  it  is  firm  with  your  base.  they  will  dig  a  lot.

Thanks  for  the  reply  scorpio...Now  that  you  mention  it...it  does  look  like  that..but  my  intention  was  to  make  it  look  natural  and  ensure  that  I  was  able  to  get  as  many  caves  as  possible  rather  than  artistic  and  therefore  the  haphazard  arrangement....Although  now  its  too  late  to  make  the  change  mentioned  since  I  have  already  added  the  water  and  started  cycling  the  tank...I  will  definitely  try  and  make  it  look  more  appealing  the  next  time  I  arrange  them...but  guess  thats  a  long  way  off  Smile  ......

Please  don't  apologise...I  really  appreciate  your  comment....

Thanks  once  again  and  do  let  me  know  if  u  think  anything  else  is  amiss...

@mmb19000  :  That  is  exactly  what  I  have  tried  to  do..but  instead  of  just  going  for  caves  I  Have  added  small  crevices  for  the  future  young  ones  as  well.....will  post  a  clearer  picture  tomorrow....hopefully  that  will  give  you  a  clearer  Idea..

Nice  start  Vpul.  What  rocks  are  they?  And  IMO,  the  crevices  you  have  provided  them  might  not  be  the  safest  shelter  if  they  are  going  to  crash.  Make  sure  they  will  stay  as  they  are.  Otherwise,  great  start.  Thumb Up

 Regards,
 Frank...

 Thanks  a  lot  Frank,

I  have  ensured  that  the  rocks  are  quite  stable  and  well  set....have  used  egg  crates  below  to  ensure  further  stability..

@  Frank  :  I  dont  really  know  what  rocks  they  are...picked  them  up  from  a  nursery  here...so  they  are  probably  some  kind  of  landscaping  rock  found  locally....

added  6  blue  dolphins  and  4  socolofis  day  before,  was  not  able  to  update  as  dont  have  my  internet  connection  up  and  running  yet...there  is  a  change  to  the  stock  list  as  well,  after  discussing  with  prabhu  at  the  aquarium  store  have  decided  to  go  for  the  following:

10  yellow  labs  -  should  come  in  within  10  days
6  blue  dolpins  -  in  already
 4  socolofis  -  in  already
4  electric  blue  peacocks  -  getting  them  today
2  M.  Estharae  -  will  get  them  next  week  sometime
4  Albino  Morphs  -  getting  them  today

the  fish  have  settled  in  quite  well...although  they  still  seem  shy  and  not  feeding  too  actively.  But  I  guess  that  is  normal  at  this  point.  Will  post  pics  as  soon  as  I  get  my  internet  connection  up  and  running...hopefully  today.  Smile

 Hi,

Havent  been  posting  a  regular  update.  Clicked  a  few  pics  last  week,  thought  Id  post  them  here  for  your  comments  and  criticism.  I  am  planning  to  change  the  layout  for  this  tank  and  make  it  a  bit  more  open.

Current  stocking  in  my  tank  includes:

 7  -  Socolofis
 6-8  -  Socolofi  babies
 6  -  yellow  labs
 6  -  blue  dolphins
 4  -  blood  parrots
 2  -  electric  blue  haps
 4  -  Unidentified  peacocks
 2  -  green  terrors
 2  -  M.  estharae
 4  -  Albino  Morphs

The  stocking  list  has  changed  quite  a  bit  from  what  I  originally  planned  and  I  think  I  will  soon  have  to  start  making  some  subtractions  and  hopefully  a  few  additions  Smile  ....

 Very  nicely  done  Thumbs Up
I  liked  the  concept  that  you  have  made  caves  at  corner  only  keeping  rest  of  the  tank  open,  I  might  think  for  change  in  my  chichlid  tank  just  like  yours  after  a  month  Very Happy
