 Hi  all,
I  just  wanted  to  ask  that  iam  doing  around  80  percent  water  change  at  least  once  and  sometimes  even  twice  a  day  for  my  discus...they  seem  a  bit  stressed  for  a  couple  of  mins  after  i  finish  doing  the  water  change  but  come  back  to  normal  in  less  than  10  mins  or  so...i  fill  back  water  directly  from  my  tap  and  don't  add  anything  to  the  water..the  tank  is  barebottom..have  started  following  tis  water  schedule  procedure  for  around  4  weeks  now  and  the  discus  have  grown  like  crazy  and  eat  like  pigs    Thumbs Up
My  question  is  am  i  overdoing  the  water  change?I  mean  its  winter  and  poona  is  pretty  cold...but  the  discus  don't  really  seem  to  be  affected...is  there  any  problem  anybody  sees  if  i  continue  doing  this?
 Thanks  in  advance..
 Hamza

There's  nothing  called  Over  Water  Changing.    The  more  WCs  you  do  the  happier  your  fishes  are.    Discus  will  not  be  stressed  at  a  temp  of  25-26°C  provided  there  is  no  temperature  fluctuations  more  than  2°C.

no  de-chlorinator?  that  may  be  the  cause..  but  it  is  possible  that  that  your  tank  is  well  areated  and  hence  it  does  not  do  the  damage.

Inorder  to  match  the  water  temp.  in  the  tank,  I  normally  do  WCs  during  lunch  hours  OR  early  evening...and  the  water  is  stored  in  the  Overhead  Tanks...

As  Madhu  rightly  pointed  out,  ensure  the  fluctuations  does  not  go  more  than  2dC  plus  OR  minus...

 hi  Toomanyfish,

I  think  if  you  are  doing  WC  of  80%  then  use  Dechlorinator  as  sometimes  if  the  water  from  the  tap  gets  more  chlorine  ..the  fishes  may  die.

Look  out  for  morning  water  temp  ..shud  no  go  below  22  degrees.

If  they  go  i  would  suggest  you  go  for  a  heater.

 Best  Regards,
 Doka

hi  i  have  a  300  watt  heater  aset  at  29  degrees.
and  yes  do  my  water  changes  at  lunch  time...
the  discus  growing  really  well...only  regret  i  have  is  that  i  can't  have  one  of  those  gorgeously  well  planted  discus  tanks  as  i  could  not  keep  the  plants  alive  and  had  to  make  it  a    bare  bottom

 fantastic  discus    Rock On
just  one  question  is  the  tank  not  too  overcrowded  for  5  pairs  of  discus?
Also  do  all  these  pairs  breed  together  in  this  one  tank?

 Thanks  folks...

 Tank  Dimension:  36x18x18...

 'Pelia'  is  this...

I  know  the  tank  is  crowded...but,  the  discus  are  not  complaining...  Chuckle

They  started  spawing,  in  separate  breeding  tanks...but,  alas!  I'm  pressed  for  time  (right  now...)  for  WCs...
Hence,  they're  back  to  the  display  tank...
Now,  as  they're  back  'Home'  eachpair  is  trying  to  locate  a  'cozy'  place...  Very Happy

Though  all  are  capable  of  breeding  in  the  same  tank,  survival  of  'free  swimming'  fry's  is  limited...  Crying or Very sad

 Bye,
