 Guys…  most  of  the  plants  in  my  tank  are  growing  weirdly  tall  and  sparse.  Height  of  tank  is  24  inches  with  4  Azoo  36W  for  10  hours  and  there  is  no  CO2  as  of  now.  I  use  PlantMagic  5ml  from  Nautilus  and  AquaBloom  5ml  once  a  day  and  Azoo  Carbon  Plus  5ml  once  a  day.  Please  let  me  know  what  I  need  to  do  make  the  plants  grow  bushier  and  less  tall.  Additionally  lower  leafs  of  most  of  the  plants  have  some  kind  of  residue  on  them  –  it  looks  like  black  or  dark  brown.  Leafs  of  water  wisteria  also  have  blackened  edges.  Old  leaf  of  all  plants  don’t  close  at  night  –  new  growth  is  fine  which  is  active  during  day  and  closed  during  nights….

 Whats  the  substrate  you  are  using?

 Denseness  is  achieved  by  planting  stems  in  bunches  of  2/3  at  each  corner  of  a  square  about  1".

 @bmvbab  -  If  I  am  not  wrong  then  it  is  simple  river  sand...it  was  put  by  my  aqua  guy  and  he  didn't  clearly  tell  me  what  it  is...

 Sorry,  only  now  did  I  zoom  the  picture  and  see  it  in  actual  size.  It  looks  more  like  a  laterite  gravel  that  you  get  in  LFS.  A  closer  picture  of  the  substrate  might  be  of  help.

 Btw,  I  think  the  height  of  the  substrate  may  not  be  sufficient.  For  a  planted  tank  its  generally  adviced  to  go  for  something  about  2-3  inches  in  height.

 And  without  CO2,  the  growth  would  be  stable  but  not  too  fast.

 You  will  eventually  end  up  with  a  bushier  look  when  you  start  pruning  your  plants-the  plants  would  then  start  sending  branches.

 @bmvbab

 I  have  been  doing  pruning  as  well  but  as  I  had  mentioned  earlier  –  lower  part  of  plants  is  kind  of  inactive  for  growth  etc…  new  stem  grows  from  the  place  where  I  had  cut  –  and  it  going  growing  upwards  –  many  cover  the  tank  surface  and  block  the  light  so  again  I  have  to  prune  them….  I  will  take  few  close  ups  and  upload.  Problem  is  my  camera  is  normal  which  can  not  focus  through  water  properly…still  I  will  try…

 It  is  also  probably  because  the  PLLs  cannot  penetrate  the  water  to  a  depth  of  24  inches  as  well  as  a  T5  HO  bulb.  AS  mentioned  earlier,  puring  and  replanting  the  tops  will  help.  Plant  only  the  top  5-6  inches  and  see  how  it  goes.  Also  some  people  have  noted  that  Cabomba  is  a  funny  plant  and  may  not  grow  consistently

 Strange  as  I  was  asked  to  replace  the  ones  I  had  before  with  this  azoo  types...  telling  me  that  I  need  these  for  better  plant  growth.  Now  I  need  something  else  Sad..

 I  read  some  where  that  with  Hagen  HO  I  will  need  CO2  as  well  since  they  are  so  bright...  hmmm  after  that  what  will  I  need?

 I  am  thinking  of  something  else...  why  not  use  exernal  front  facing  lighting?  I  will  keep  it  on  a  stand  right  infront  of  the  tank  while  I  am  out...  remove  it  when  I  am  in  Smile...  How  is  that?  This  will  give  light  from  down  under  and  up  above  as  well...  Smile

 It  isnt  just  about  the  amount  of  light  you  have  it  is  about  the  ability  of  that  type  of  bulb  to  penetrate  the  water.  As  far  as  I  know  for  a  2  foot  high  tank,  other  than  Metal  halides  only  T5  HOs  are  up  to  the  task.

 don't  you  think  36*4  is  high  lighting  ..for  the  tank  without  CO2  setup?

 what  are  the  dimensions  of  the  tank  by  the  way?

 @niroo

 Well  I  am  not  sure.  The  tank  is  42Lx16Wx24H  in  inches.  Last  night  I  did  massive  pruning  of  all  affected  plants  and  reduced  water  levels  as  well  for  some  time  and  have  kept  air  conditioner  on  since  last  few  days  to  bring  temparature  down  24C.

 Your  best  bet  for  T5  HOs  would  be  Lohar  Chawl.

 Connect  with  fishmad_fakhruddin,  I  think  that's  his  ID  here  if  I  am  not  mistaken.  He  made  me  a  lovely  T5  Ballast  which  works  like  a  wand.
