Yep,  got  it  right  there,  some  of  the  most  colorful  and  huge  tilapias  I  have  ever  seen.  Most  of  them  exceeding  12"  mark.
This  is  Muncipal  maintained  pond,  with  tons  of  tasty  fish  as  its  strictly  a  no-fishing  zone.  Sad

These  fishes  get  daily  snacks(breads  and  biscuits)  from  visitors,  even  channa  striatas  there  eat  bread  Shocked

Apart  from  these  there  are  uncountable  gambusias  swimming  along  with  larger  fishes  and  I  have  heard  about  a  couple  of  giant  plecos  and  have  seen  one  really  huge  meter  long  catfish  in  last  visit.

 Look  at  all  those  tilapias

Wish  they  were  some  frontosas  instead!!  Sad
So  where  is  this  highly-guarded  pond?
 Any  pics  of  Channa.sp?

 Thanks  for  sharing.
If  they  werent  pests,  surely  would  have  been  an  awesome  fish  to  keep-  both  for  shoaling  and  extreme  parenting.

Tilapias  are  beautiful  fish  in  their  own  right.  Too  bad  that  they  have  infested  our  native  waters  so  much.  I  have  a  client  who  just  picked  up  a  few  fry  from  me  and  has  them  in  a  small  pond  at  his  place.  The  fry  grew  and  two  pairs  were  formed.  Of  which  the  more  dominant  pair  is  almost  always  on  constant  production  duty.

they  used  to  be  sold  in  mysore,  if  i  remember  correctly  almost  11  years  back  or  so
they  were  sold  as  Firemouth  Cihclid(not  the  T.  meeki)

they  used  to  have  really  beautiful  coloration,  the  red  on  the  caudal,  dorsal  and  pectorals.

and  the  best  part  would  be  to  see  them  spawn  in  the  tank,  i  mean  the  fish  were  mouth  brooders,  the  fry  used  to  run  into  the  parents  mouth  the  moment  they  used  to  see  any  one  coming  too  close  to  the  tank.

Does  someone  have  the  exact  Tilapia  story?  Like  why/how/when  they  were  released  into  native  waters  etc.  Maybe  an  internet  link?
