 Hi  IAH,

Yesterday,  Monday  24,  2010  was  my  1st  trip  to  Kurla's  Wholesale  Fish  Stores  on  a  weekday.

Below  are  pics  of  some  of  the  (relatively)  nicer/exotic  fish  available  there:

(Last  one's  my  favorite  monster  of  them  all..  Smile  )

As  you  may  have  noticed,  my  specialty  in  photography  is  the  exact  opposite  to  that  of  experts  like  Hayath,  Jib  et  al.  I  can  take  a  picture  of  some  of  the  most  beautiful  fish  in  the  world  and  make  them  look  like  poop.

 Cheers,
 Sid

I  also  saw  a  baby  Black  Arowana  (Osteoglossum  ferreirai),  but  the  picture  didn't  turn  out  very  well.  The  Black  Aro  was  fantastic!

It  is  the  3rd  Black  Aro  I  have  seen  in  Bombay  over  the  last  few  weeks.  I  hope  they  start  getting  a  little  more  common  and  a  bit  cheaper.  (Price  for  a  4  to  5  incher  breaks  into  5  digits.)

Come  to  Kurla  Station  and  then  just  go  to  the  East,  A  2  min  walk  from  the  station  take  the  first  right  you  get.  There  are  small  shops  in  by-lanes  there  which  I  guess  you  would  know  once  you  go  there.

Thanx  sid  for  the  directions.will  go  this  sunday.

:)  I  had  gone  there  several  times  on  Sundays  (and  Saturdays),  but  the  experience  is  not  the  same.  (Hence,  the  "on  a  weekday"  phrase  in  the  title.)

In  my  personal  opinion,  most  of  these  Wholesale  dealers  have  little  interest  in  entertaining  direct  customers  like  you  and  me  (unless  you  build  some  sort  of  rapport  with  these  guys).  Direct  customers  (as  opposed  to  retailers)  are  what  they  primarily  expect  on  weekends.

On  Sunday,  most  of  these  shops  are  closed  or  are  open  only  till  lunch-time.

You  will  find  a  few  shops  open  and  even  those  are  great.  But  for  checking  out  ALL  the  stores  there,  you  will  need  to  go  there  on  a  weekday.

 Good  luck.

Disclaimer:  Mods,  please  edit/delete  this  comment  is  this  is  against  some  rules.  I  have  no  affiliation  to  any  of  the  stores  mentioned  below.

The  Asian  Aro  and  Arapaima  (and  one  Gar  pic)  is  from  Aakar.  The  other  Gars  are  from  the  store  next  to  "Kurla  Aquarium".  It  starts  with  a  "T",  Tariq  or  Taufiq  or  something.

 Regards,
 Sid

Trevor,  do  you  know  anyone  on  IAH  who  has  a  Arapaima?  (Because,  that  will  be  awesome!)

I  think  one  of  the  few  people  here  who  can  keep  one  (for  the  fish's  lifetime)  is  Jib  who  has  that  outdoor  pond.

 Regards,

 Sid

PS:  a  few  more  pics  (not  mine)  to  illustrate  the  size  of  these  monsters:
