|
|
Hi All,
I want to add 2 Ram cichlids to a planted, tropical community tank as they seem to be the only 'safe' cichlids for such a setup (the other inmates are odessa barbs, rasboras, tetras, guppies and rainbows). The tank is about 90 galls and in use for over a year. It looks like once a pair of Ram's settle down, it is quite likely that they will start breeding regularly but that is something I dont want because a) there is no chance of the fry surviving b) i don't want the hassle of having to collect them and find takers every month or so. That being the case, I was wondering if I could just have 2 males or 2 females - would that be a problem (aggression-wise)? Which would work and look better, the males or females?
thanks

| Go for two males. More colorful too. Plenty of space for those guys in the 90, you can even go for a couple more if you want. |

| 2 males might not be a very good idea. They'll keep flaring at each other most of the times and wasting energy. |

Hi All,
Thanks for the info. Will 2 male/female Ram's be aggressive towards each other even when there is no opposite sex around or do they get aggressive only while breeding?
thanks

| Should not be a problem. Btw, go for the males, they would be more colorful generally. |

go for more females than males..that way you would lower the aggression..however,males are more colourful than females..its your pick buddy..i think rams look awesome in planted tanks..they prefer it too.. |

Would tend to agree with Jibran
I have a breeding pair of Bolivian Rams in my community tank. I don't try to salvage the fry, Its a fish eat fish world in there
