 Hi  everybody,

I  have  4  discus  about  3"  to  5"  almost.  4-5  days  back  I  have  introduced  4  neons.  After  2  days  all  died.  I  suspect  that  the  discus  have  killed  them.  Is  it  possible?or  may  be  due  some  other  reason?

ya  if  the  neons  really  small  the  discus  will  chase  them  around  but  i  think  that  your  neons  perished  due  to  stress   because  of  keeping  them  with  the  large  fish

Any  fish  small  enough  to  fit  in  the  mouth  will  become  a  good  breakfast.discus  are  carnivorous.unless  you  keep  them  together  on  their  juvenile  stage  or  before,  neon  teras  in  small  school  wont  be  a  good  companion  with  discus.
Also  it  is  possible  the  neons  were  not  properly  acclaimed.

Always  keep  neons  in  a  group  of  6+.  I  think  they  will  dead  due  to  stress.

i've  had  hard  time  keeping  neons  with  discus.  The  problem  is  that  neons  are  not  early  wake  and  they  are  unconscious  till  the  time  discus  are  awake  in  morning.  The  feast  becomes  easy  for  discus  to  have  it.

In  order  to  keep  neons  with  discus  successfully  I  would  suggest  to  have  heavily  planted  tank  with  lots  of  hiding  places  for  neons  to  rest.  And  always  have  a  big  school  of  neons  so  that  it  becomes  difficult  for  discus  to  spot/chase  one.

BTW,  another  word  of  caution  :  Discus  need  warm  water  however  water  temperature  >=29  degree  Celsius  makes  neon  pale  in  color  and  inactive  (from  my  experience)

Discus  prefer  slightly  warmer  waters  and  neons  are  cool  water  fish.Yes  besides  discus  just  like  angels  hunt  down  neons.Cardinals  are  a  better  choice.

Thank  you  for  the  suggestions.  I  thought  they  are  good  companions.  Anyways.  Its  a  good  learning  process.  It  may  also  be  due  to  the  temperature.  I  had  4  of  them  Anyways,  thanx  again.

Charecter  differs  from  fish  to  fish. Not  all  discus  will  do  well  with  neons.BTW  cardinals  are  better  tankmates  for  discus.

 Hi

 There  may  be  2  issues..

1>  If   you  keep  Discus  &  Neon  together  from  their  juvenile  stage  then  there  is  no  problem.  But  Size  of  3"  Discus  u  can  not  keep  them  together.

2>  Temperature  issue...Neon  need  cool  water  (up  to  28  degree  max.)  ruther  than  Discus  Discus
 need  warm  water.

 (From  my  personal  exp.)

Hi  Abhis9,  Thank  you  for  sharing  your  exeriences.  As  I  heard  before  that  grp  of  neons  give  confidence  to  shy  discuses.  But  when  I  tried  to  keep  them  together,  this  happened.  By  the  way,  do  you  know  saurabh  from  bangalore?  Once  I  asked  him  for  a  person  having  good  stock  of  discus  in  Kolkata.  He  suggested  Saurabh  ghoshal  and  your  name.  I  have  already  met  saurabh  ghoshal.  But  didnt  get  the  opportunity  to   talk  to  u.  I  have  4.5  inch  4  discuses.  Thank  you  for  givinginformations.
