Here  is  a  picture  of  the  parents  and  the  frys...

 Hi  Binesh,

It  sure  was  a  success....  how  should  i  calculate  the  success  rate?  Does  it  depend  on  the  number  of  eggs  that  settle  down  at  the  bottom  unhatched....

The  hatch  rate  in  the  second  trial  was  much  better  than  the  first.  The  first  one  was  started  at  night  and  I  did  not  have  light  above  the  hatchery  for  the  first  day.....  while  the  second  hatchery  had  a  light  on  through  the  night  and  I  am  picking  up  the  shrimps  after  40  hours...  the  hatch  rate  in  the  second  trial  was  about  75-80%....  I  still  cannot  quanttify  the  success  rate  with  accuracy  and  would  keep  a  watchout....

Is  there  any  other  good  dry  fry  food  available  in  the  market  which  can  effectively  replace  freshly  hatched  BBS.

When  should  I  affect  the  water  change.  I  have  not  changed  water  since  they  spawned.

 Thanks  a  lot!!

 Cheers!!
 Ganesh

Thanks  a  lot  Sai,  Abhi,  Adesh,  Hrishi  and  Supro  for  all  your  wishes.   It  sure  is  a  sight  to  see  the  fry  move  all  around  the  tank.

Hrishi  I  am  not  disturbing  the  eggs  at  all...  infact  they  have  already  hatched...   Smile

Saw  something  change  since  yesterday....  The  male  has  kind  off  distanced  himself  away  from  the  shoal  and  stays  keeps  quite  a  distance  from  the  female....  today  morning  noticed  that  his  tail  had  taken  a  few  bitings....  and  i  am  sure  the  female  is  the  culprit  since  there  is  nobody  else  in  the  tank  other  than  the  frys...

the  male  still  continues  to  care  for  the  fry  and  is  very  aggresive  towards  anything  which  comes  near  the  tank....  the  only  change  is  that  he  has  distanced  himself  away  from  the  female.  I  have  seen  the  female  bullying  him....  but  this  guy  is  resilient  and  has  not  shown  any  retaliation  so  far....

Is  this  behavior  normal?  I  was  warned  about  aggression  breaking  out  between  the  male  and  female  SA  cichlids  during  parenting.  Is  this  the  same.  When  should  i  decide  to  bring  in  the  partition  if  needed?

 Thanks!!
 Ganesh

Eight  days  after  the  hatch..  the  fry  have  grown  big  and  have  started  to  move  around  the  tank  at  will...

The  female  bit  a  portion  of  the  male's  tail...   Sad

The  frys  are  pretty  inquisite  and  are  seen  here  checking  out  the  siphoning  tube....  it  was  a  sight  to  watch  when  a  big  wave  of  fry's  passed  over  the  tube  but  the  camera  battery  was  drained  then....

 Thank  you  all!!

 Cheers!!

 Hi  Hamza,

i  had  read  a  lot  about  the  leaf  on  the  forum  and  was  not  able  to  find  it...  and  then  found  many  trees  during  an  evening  walk  in  the  campus  right  next  door...  so  just  added  one  leaf  to  the  tank....  should  i  remove  it?

the  tail  is  the  only  damage  on  the  male  so  far...  but  the  female  continues  to  bully  the  male  once  in  a  while...  so  do  i  continue  to  keep  them  together?

 Thanks  a  lot!!

 Cheers!!
 Ganesh

CA  cichlids  require  hard  and  basic  water,  and  badam  leaf  does  the  opposite  effect  to  water  parametrs(acidic).

Badam  leaf  is  best  used  for  soft  water  fishes  that  enjoy  tanned  acidic  conditions,  like  bettas,  dwarf  cichlids,  etc.

Would  move  that  leaf  out  of  the  tank.  Whats  good  for  one  is  not  necessarily  good  for  everyone....  :)

 Hello  all...

 Some  updates  from  my  end....

The  frys  have  grown....  After  hatching  for  the  first  10  days  they  were  on  a  diet  of  BBS  and  egg  yolk....  and  slowly  have  transitioned  to  finely  powdered  dry  food....  pictures  speak  thousand  words...  so  here  we  go...

Mama  hiding  within  the  rocks  with  frys  in  foreground....

Dad  watching  the  school  of  fry...

 A  close-up  of  Dad

 Mamma  surrounded  by  babies

Mamma  not  happy  with  the  numbers  of  frys  on  dad's  side....  wants  to  go  there  and  give  dad's  tail  a  big  bite...

 Dad  surrounded  by  his  babies

 Fry  pecking  on  the  sand...

One  more  fry  pecking  on  the  sand...

thank  you  all  for  the  help  and  wishes...

 Cheers!!
 Ganesh
