there  is  no  sinking  problem  but  the  colour  of  the  water  is.  what  should  i  do  to  get  rid  of  it??

Boil  it  more,  20mins  is  almost  nothing.

I  soak  wood  for  a  week,  then  boil  it  for  2hours+  ,  leaving  the  wood  in  hot  water  till  the  water  cools  down.  I  repeat  the  process  several  times  if  needed.

On  the  other  hand  tannins  are  good  if  you  have  SA  fishes,  bettas,  etc.
You  can  also  use  activated  carbon  to  reduce  tannins  in  non-planted  tanks.

check  your  directory  and  look  for  pool  maintainence  companies.  ask  them  for  the  Activated  Carbon.  this  will  help  leech  the  tannins  from  the  tank.  u  can  also  use  this  to  remove  meds  from  the  water.

I  have  a  Boyu  internal  filter  300  L/H.  How  do  I  go  about  using  activated  carbon  with  it?

I  want  to  use  it  to  remove  tannins  being  leeched  from  the  driftwood  in  the  tank.

External  filter  comes  handy  in  such  cases,  activated  carbon  pads  are  good  in  removing  such  tannins.
Also  you  can  place  few  Charcoal  bags  inside  the  filter  for  a  week  or  so  to  expedite  the  process.

Few  LFS  here  keep  those  specially  meant  for  aquarium  use.
If  I'm  not  wrong,  ADA  has  its  own  Charcoal  product  for  removing  tannins.

Well  ADA  India  site  does  have  Bamboo  Charcoal  and  NA  Carbon  products  but  it  does  not  seem  worth  the  price  just  to  remove  tannins  considering  that  my  tank  is  just  a  2  footer.

Indiapetstore  sells  activated  carbon  which  might  work  out  for  if  I  can  use  it  in  my  filter,  since  they  seem  to  be  in  granular  format  and  I  do  not  know  how  I  can  use  it.  Will  it  be  okay  if  I  just  place  these  in  some  kind  of  mesh  or  bag  inside  the  filter?

 EDIT:

My  filter  does  not  have  compartments  /  trays  /  filter  bags.

It  is  ok  just  tie  up  the  carbon  in  thin  cloth  and  remove  some  sponge  and  replace  it  with  the  carbon.  If  this  isnt  possible  then  just  let  the  bag  hang  in  the  tank.  It  will  work  but  slower.

You  can  pick  up  activated  carbon  in  Bandra.  You  know  the  shops  near  the  talao  ?  The  last,  narrow  shop  in  that  line  has  AC

Tried  all  tricks  mentioned  above,  they  never  seem  to  work.  Thumb Down

Frequent  waterchanges  in  the  tank  will  keep  the  colour  out.  A  few  years  down  the  line  when  the  wood  has  lost  all  its  tanins  it  will  stop  colouring  the  water.

@Mortis:  Thanks.  I  Dunno  much  of  Bandra  ...  can  you  tell  me  on  which  road  it  is?

@Preeths:  A  lot  of  people  vouch  for  AC  and  Charcoal  to  clear  the  tannins.  I  do  not  want  to  go  through  the  hassle  of  frequent  water  changes  and  till  the  driftwood  naturally  clears  out  all  its  tannins  I  can  keep  it  clean  using  AC.  Thanks
