 Hi..

 Currently  i  have  2  MH  150  W  setup.

Is  this  enough  light  for  a  planted  aquarium?

Also  how  often  do  i  need  to  change  the  bulbs?

Any  advice  will  be  helpful..  quite  confused  right  now.  Had  planted  some  Amazons  and  Lillies  and  they  all  died  except  one  Lilly  which  looks  stunted  and  never  grew  Sad

Should  be  enough  at  least  in  part.

Make  sure  your  substrate  is  at  least  3"-5"  thick.  Also  the  kind  of  substrate  is  important.  Gravel  size  should  be  about  2-3mm.  A  picture  of  the  tank  would  be  nice.  Lighting  should  be  on  for  8  hours  daily.

More  details  of  the  tank,  your  name  and  location  would  be  helpful.

And  oh!  Welcome  to  IAH!   Thumb Up

How  much  is  the  height  of  the  MH  is  also  important  as  it  creates  lot  of  heat.

Please  give  us  more  information  about  the  tank  along  with  the  picture.

 Raj..

Thanks  guys  for  the  reply's  and  the  Welcome!   and  sorry  for  the  delay..was  out  of  town..

I  am  using  River  sand  which  is  not  too  fine  as  a  substrate.

The  height  of  the  MH  fro  the  water  would  be  bout  8  inches  i'm  guessing  and  the  tops  of  the  MH  is  exposed.

I  am  in  Delhi  and  my  name  is  Gautam  :)

heres  a  pic  of  the  tank..  as  you  can  see  it's  completely  bare..  so  will  need  lots  of  advice  on  lighting  and  plants!  :)

 Off  to  Aquatica  tomorrow!  :)

 Hi  Gautam

Welcome  to  IAH!!   Some  pointers  for  you

 1.  Distance  of  MH  from  water  Surface  :  12"-18"  (15"  is  optimal).  This  will  play  a  very  important  role  in  the  Delhi  heat.
 2.  Amount  of  light  :  If  you  add  a  pressurized  CO2  system  to  this  then  you  need  one  more  MH.  Normally  I  use  3  nos  of  150W  MH  for  a  aquarium  your  size.
 3.  Life  of  lamp:  Normally  with  a  good  Control  gear  you  an  get  a  life  of  12-15  months.  I  would  recommend  you  use  a  Electronic  Ballast.
 4.  Kind  of  lamp:  The  best  available  in  the  market  is  an  ADA  bulb.

Thanks  Harshal!  i  will  change  the  bulbs,  but  dont  know  if  i  can  afford  the  ADA  bulbs  yet  :)

 i  was  considering  a  DIY  CO2  setup.

 Any  thoughts  on  LED  lights?

 Thanks!

 Gautam
