 hi....

my  friend  has  asked  me  to  setup  a  6  footer  for  his  newly  constructed  house.....  Cheering

im  posting  a  pic  of  the  place  of  setup....the  tank  has  to  be  placed  between  the  2  walls....

the  specs  of  the  wall  is..     8  foot  wide  and  1.5  foot  width  and  7  feet  in  height....

the  tank  will  act  as  a  divider  .........

 tank  specs:

   6(l)  x  1.5(w)  x  2(h)   all  in  feet.....

 filteration  :  eheim  2217  x  2......

light  :  not  decided(will  decide  based  on  the  setup...  Chuckle  )

should  be  visible  from  both  sides......!!!!!

 either  partially  planted  or  hardscaped....

please  do  give  in  your  ideas   ....

hey  suhail,  good  u  have  a  lovely  place  for  a  tank.  planted  tank  would  be  good  but  its  not  a  easy  task  to  maintain  them  in  such  spec..  go  for  a  cichlid  tank..  easy  to  maintain  and  we  can  source  some  lovely  fishes  too.  u  have  a  lot  of  options  on  cichlids  too.marine  is  also  an  option  but  i  have  no  idea  about  it.

I  second  Sangam's  suggestion  for  a  Cichlid  setup.

I  would  recommend  Africans,  but  I  am  sure  SA/CA  will  look  awesome  too.  It's  just  that  most  people  (who  don't  know  much  about  fish)  will  find  a  colorful  Malawi  set-up  more  enticing  compared  to  a  SA/CA  set-up  which  may  have  to  be  slightly  dimly  lit.

A  140  Gal.  Marine  tank  will  be  also  be  awesome,  but  expensive.

 Also,  the  difference  in  appearance  of  a  6(L)  X  2  (H)  tank  as  compare  to  that  of  a  6(L)  X  2.5  or  3  (H)  tank  is  spectacular.

So  consider  going  for  2.5  ft  height.  (You  will  have  to  re-calculate  the  glass  thickness  required.)

 Good  luck,
 Sid

Suhail,  as  pointed  by  Sid,  if  your  friend  isn't  a  fish  fanatic  (  not  having  any  particular  species  in  mind  ),  even  a  Val  tank  with  rocks  and  loads  of  Barbs  should  do.  If  it's  possible  to  make  use  of  2  feet  depth  available,  better  make  use  of  it,  rather  than  1.5  ft  depth.  You  get  more  room  for  aquascaping.

Im  not  sure  about  planted  setup...  it  will  be  very  hard  to  arrange  the  lights  for  6-7  feet  deep  tank...

I  have  no  experience  with  Planted  set-up,  so  correct  me  if  I'm  wrong.  Wouldn't  a  planted  set-up  need  more  maintenance  (trimming,  etc)  as  compared  to  non-planted?

Now,  I  am  sure  this  maintenance  will  be  a  labor  of  joy  for  most  enthusiasts  here  on  IAH,  but  check  if  your  friend  is  OK  with  this.

As  for  going  for  the  Malawi  Cichlids,  you  can  use  google  for  ideas.

 For  example:  http://www.malawimayhem.com/images/gallery/5685Full%20Tank%204%20May%2006.JPG

(The  above  set-up  seems  to  be  a  bit  understocked.  You  can  go  for  something  similar  (white  sand,  round  stones  maybe  with  some  more  caves)  and  add  more  "Electric"  Blue  and  "Electric"  Yellow  Cichlids  (i.e.  Blue  Dolphins  and  Yellow  Labs)

 Cheers,
 Sid

 Suhail,

Go  planted  only  if  you  think  you  will  be  able  to  maintain  temperature  around  28  at  the  least.  If  thats  not  going  to  be  achievable  drop  the  idea  of  a  planted.

You  can  go  in  for  a  simple  low  tech  planted  setup  like  with  vals  and  crypts  but  that  would  also  spell  disaster  in  the  Vellore  heat.

Cichlids  is  the  way  to  go  depending  on  what  the  owner  of  the  house  prefers.
