 Hello  MFK,

I  found  this  Arapaima  for  sale  at  a  LFS  in  Bombay  (Price  breaking  into  5  digits)

I  am  not  planning  to  buy  it,  but  I  was  wondering  what  do  the  experts  have  to  say  about  the  quality  and  health  of  the  specimen  and  if  it's  worth  the  price.

Link

(He  is  a  little  spooked.  My  brother  tried  to  "pretend"  he  is  feeding  him  to  get  him  closer  to  the  glass,  but  it  didn't  work.)

 Thank  you,

 Sid

It's  a  damn  pima,  there's  no  quality  about  it...they  are  all  the  same..

Most  of  them  will  all  end  up  dead  in  a  few  months,  or  dumped  in  some  river.  These  fish  should  only  be  sold  as  food  and  not  pets  in  India  as  very  few  people  will  be  able  to  house  them  properly.

Sid,  why  is  it,  that  every  lfs  you  go  to  -  they  always  over  charge  you  ?

Well,  I  like  to  think  that's  because  they  think  I  can  afford  it  Smile  ..  But,  it's  probably  because  they  think  I'm  a  sucker!  :(

PS:  I  can't  be  more  specific  on  IAH  than  using  the  phrase  "breaking  into  5  digits"  (in  INR).  I  am  PMing  you  the  exact  price  and  we  can  discuss  this  further.

The  friend  of  mine  who  is  interested  has  a  out-door  pond  to  house  this  monster  once  it  gets  too  big  for  his  tanks.

(I  am  more  interested  in  discussing  the  places/prices  for  a  Black  Aro  which  is  going  to  be  my  next  purchase.  I  believe  that  is  what  you  were  referring  to  in  your  comment  Smile)

I  don't  think  its  that  they  think  you  can  afford  it..

Im  a  guy  who  can't  speak  any  of  the  native  languages  and  most  of  them  think  i  can  afford  those  stupid  prices...yet  i  still  get  them  at  a  cheaper  rate..

We  (my  friend  and  I)  have  had  the  growth-rate  and  the  "housing  requirements"  discussion  after  research.  He  is  aware  of  these  issues.

Currently,  he  is  faced  with  making  a  choice  from  over  a  dozen  Arapaima  specimen  and  hence  I  was  hoping  this  thread  would  address  quality  and  characteristics  which  define  quality  in  Arapaimas.

 Thank  you,
 Sid
