Hello everyone,
8 hobbyists from Pune, did a collection trip, around the Veer Dam area, which is located off Shirwal, on the NH-4 (mumbai-bangalore) We dint do much collection at the actual dam site, but instead, collected along the streams and rivers enroute.
We wanted to survey this area, as none of us had been there before, with good equipment. Besides, there is always time for one more fishy outing
We had an early morning start, around 6.00 AM,and left after an elaborate breakfast, tea, and some smokes..
The first stop was a small stagnant waterbody on the outskirts of Saswad. The fish noted here, were
1) Rasbora Daniconius (damn this fish is EVERYWHERE!! )
2) Garra sp.
3) Some un IDable fish (looks like some bottom dweller)
Also collected some limnophila (aquatica?) here, and some cryptocoryne ? sp. ( Abhijit/ Adesh , please post photos ) and some low growing plant, which i doubt is aquatic or not.
(Owing to my outstanding knowledge of aquatic plants, this is the first time i have actually collected plants in the wild around Pune )

Stopped a little ahead of Saswad at a river, where i assume illegal sand mining was being carried out.
The entire downstream area was a mess, so we were a little skeptical about finding any fish here. To rub salt on the wound, we found the notorious Jalebi/Chilapi here.
Collected some rocks ahead of this location, and proceeded.
Next stop, was a roadside stream, with VERY cool waters. the temperature would have been around 22-25 degrees.
We collected lots of woodshrimps here, most of them females, carrying eggs.
Also collected loaches here. (L.Thermalis?)
Please ID
Also collected crabs here, for Abhirams Paludarium.
We changed rides here, and i switched seats with Adesh, on to Sandesh's mean machine.
We then stopped at another big stream. FINALLY a chance to try out our DIY 30x5 foot net
Fishes caught here were:
1)Rasbora Daniconius (AGAIN ! )
2)Guppies
3)Some danios. (dani dangila? Abhiram/abhijit, please put up pics)
4)Puntius sp. Please ID
5) Ompok sp. ( as IDd by Vyas )
6) Another Catfish
We took a brief halt at the actual dam, where everyone collected rocks. From then on, it was back to Pune, using the NH-4.
We subsequently took another hour to sort the fish, rocks, plants.
All in all, it was a fun trip! Adesh who got a headache midway, missed the most fun parts.
Also missed Humaid during this trip, which was his idea in the first place.
The Discus bros from Pune. Sandesh and weary looking Adesh
Request Abhijit and Adesh to put up more pics and any corrections.

Wow some fantastic catches there ! the first fish looks like a juvenile garra ? the second fish isn't L.thermalis , could it possibly be an Orenectes sp/ ? the Puntius look different to any thing I've seen , if they are juveniles perhaps they could be one of the Sarana complex ?

Shubhankar, the trip was nice and it could have been wonderful for me if I was in best of my health. I was resting in the truck for most of the time. I've asked Sandesh to post few of pics from our camera.
BTW, you forgot to mention that we collected few round shaped rocks from our last spot. Dont you have pics of various plants we collected?

It does. The spot appears almost as a stripe when they are inside 2" and moves up to a blotch/spot around 4" and starts disappearing when they get close to 6" after which the spot on the peduncle too "fades away".
