Experience only. The words, low lit high lit, don't mean anything - go to the first post and take the meaning from there. Remember always that these are only guidelines and subject to your ambient light. |

Hi,
Interesting approach to calculating lighting needs for a tank
wanted to know why have you rated the lumens for a T5 HO lower as compared to a regular T5 ? |

It is lumen per watt. The HO produces less per watt but packs more power in the same size. There is loss of efficiency but increase of total production (and total consumption) in the same space. That is the normal case for all overdriven luminaries. |

If you have the space (ie. if you can fit in the normal fluorescents in the available space) use NO if you need more light but do not have the space for it then use HO. Remember always that individual reflectors are better than multiple tube reflectors. |

Thanks maaaaaaan that was very good piece of information...
if possible can you add the type of plants against each enrty
1. Low litr..... these plants
2. Med lite.... these plants.....etc
those plants which are conventionally used and availabe and very commonly planted.... |

T5 converts more electricity into light and is a more efficient bulb but an equally powered T5HO will occupy less space but give less light.
HO bulbs are space efficient and not output efficient and they produce more heat too. Remember always the more efficient your bulb is; it has less electricity left over to convert into waste heat. |
