Hi..  First  of  iam  a  newb   :)

 Using  Chucks  Calculator  to  dose  MgSO4,  KH2PO4,  K2SO4.   Couldnt  get  KNO3  :(

Question  i  have  ir  regarding  Microsol  B  and  Iron  dosing.

Also  the  Iron  i  got  say  12%  on  it,  and  wherever  i  read  it  say  10%.  does  this  mean  i  should  dose  less  or  is  this  a  wrong  fert?

My  tank  is  680  Litres  approx.

Hope  someone  can  help..  been  stuck  for  a  while  ...Thanks

Let  me  simplify  things  for  you..

 Macros  -  N(nitrogen),  P(phosphorous),  K(potassium)
Three  essential  elements  needed  in  larger  quantities(hence  macros).

Good  sources  for  all  the  above  three  can  be  KNO3  and  KH2PO4.
The  former  gives  nitrogen(N),  so  you  cannot  skip  this,  as  plants  will  be  deprived  of  N.

 The  latter  gives  you  phosphorous(p).

And  potassium(K)  being  common  in  both.

It  is  sufficient  to  dose  KNO3  and  KH2PO4  for  macros.

So  you  got  to  get  KNO3,  its  compulsary.

 You  can  completely  skip  K2SO4.

Micros  -  These  are  required  in  minor  or  little  quantities.  There  are  actually  a  set  of  elements  like  boron,  iron,  magnesium,  zinc,  manganese,  calcium,  etc.

It  is  not  possible  to  make  a  DIY  for  this.  Either  you  get  something  branded  like  seachem,  ADA,  etc.  or  you  can  get  plantex  CSM-B  a  very  good  mixture  at  very  economical  cost,  especially  for  larger  tanks.  There  are  a  couple  of  sources  where  you  can  get  it  online.  Use  your  search  engine  to  find  out  about  it.
Though  some  people  suggest  using  some  additional  iron  for  it,  additional  iron  gives  a  rich  red  coloration  to  some  plants.

Microsol  B  isnt  good  choice  for  micros.  Long  back  it  used  to  be  a  nice  mix,  but  nowadays  it  just  doesnt  works,  the  percentage  of  nutrients  on  cover  is  far  exaggerated  from  actual,  so  it  hardly  helps  to  contribute  to  essential  needs  of  your  plants.   Thumb Down  We  had  this  discussion  previously  in  Macros  and  Micros  forum,  'Dubious  microsol'  is  the  topic  if  I  am  right,  let  me  know  if  you  arent  able  to  find  that  thread.

If  you  are  using  regular  tap  water,  dont  care  much  about  GH  boosters  or  MgSO4.

Theres  a  simple  method  of  dosing  called  as  Estimative  Index(EI),  this  link  will  certainly  explain  you  better  than  I  can,  do  go  through  it...

 Estimative  Index

 Hamza,

I  have  one  query.  Do  i  need  to  put  macros  in  ada  amazonia  tank.  Its  one  year  old  setup.  For  micros  i  have  recently  shifted  to  ada  step3  from  step2.

 Regards,
 Jasbir

@Jasbir...ADA,  I  have  no  practical  experience,  havent  used  ADA  stuff,  yet.  But  AFAIK  its  only  for  ADA  powersand  that  you  dont  require  to  dose  nitrates  initially.  But  for  AS  you  need  dosing,  both  macros  and  micros.

And  either  follow  complete  ADA  liquid  system  as  suggested  by  the  manufacturer  or  completely  go  DIY(PMDD  or  EI),  mixing  both  usually  ends  up  in  a  mess.

@Aquageek...Micros  are  difficult  to  make  by  yourself,  you  need  to  procure  readymade  stuff.  I  personally  use  CSM-B  from  aquariumfertilizer.com,  it  is  one  of  the  most  cost-effective  and  best  sources  for  micros  used  by  many  hobbyists  worldwide.  Some  have  been  using  seachem  flourish  for  the  same  purpose  and  got  great  results.
There  are  some  other  mixes  as  well,  locally  manufactured  and  Chinese  stuff,  I  have  never  used  them  and  I  couldnt  find  any  prominent  user  with  outstanding  results.

 Pls  advise

 1.  Macros  -  which  type  of  trader  would  you  find  KNO3  and  KH2PO4  ?  Are  there  any  known  retailers  in  Mumbai/Thane?  I  scouted  quite  a  few  pharma  shops  etc  for  info,  but  did  not  get  a  lead.

 2.  Also,  most  LFS  do  not  have  Seachem  Flourish  or  similar  Micronutrients.  Where  can  we  get  it

 3.  Are  these  dosings  any  useful  if  your  substrate  is  just  plain  gravel  without  any  fertiliser  in  it?

I  have  7-8  Amazons,  1  Tiger  Lotus  and  1  red  cabomba  in  my  2ft  20g  tank.

 Hi  Yogesh,
In  Mumbai  try  Lower  Chawl  side  you  should  get  most  of  what  your  looking  for.

In  Pune  try  Vardhaman  or  Dhanashree  Agro  they  should  have  as  well.  If  you  need  to  something  to  start  with,  come  to  my  place  and  I  can  lend  you  some  starter  packs.  I  live  at  Seepz-  Andheri.

 Regards
