Hi,
Microsol B is not available in in Kolkata. Can anybody from IAH send me it through courier? Payment can be made by online money transfer or DD.
Waiting for some member to jump into action for helping me out.
I dont promise...but i can try
in the meanwhile why dont u check with Amitava from kolkata..I think he also keeps a planted tank.He should have some information.
For a new planted tank that is just a week old,how many spoons of K2SO2,KNO3 and Microsol B do i use in 1 litre of water to prepare the PMDD.I plan to get the pressurised CO2 setup only after a month or so.Is it okay for me to start off with pmdd dosing meanwhile?

Your plants might still not have taken root. The added nutrients might be excess and algae will take hold.
Better wait for a month or so and allow new shoots to germinate

Don't dose PMDD or Macros until the CO2 setup is in place.
The standard PMDD solution you prepare is about one heaped tablespoon of Microsol_B (approx 15 gms) + about 35 gms of MgSO4 to one liter of water. Dose this at 1ml per day to 280 liters of tank volume.
You will have to increase the dosage when your plants grow well or if you have very fast growers. No one the on net can suggest the ideal dosage for a tank. You have to watch your plants for signs of deficiency and tailor your dosage accordingly.
You can add the K2SO4 and KNO3 directly to the tank in powder or liquid form. No need to add this to the PMDD. Use Chuck Gadd's calculator for the dosage.

Just wondering.........
Many micronutrient mixes are sold as "foliars". I am making a wild guess this is becuse they are easily absorbed from the leaves and they dont need to reach the roots.
Absolutely correct. Microsol_B can be used asa foliar spray.

For those looking around for DTPA: chelators will exchange their cations easily for others. That is the reason why we are using them (see below). Mixing equal molar concentrations of sodium DTPA and ferrous salts like ferrous chloride or ferrous sulphate (ferrous chloride turns mushy as it is so highly soluble in water that it absorbs moisture from air) should give adequate levels of ferrous DTPA. But DTPA salts, like many other lab reagents, are costly and dont come in small amounts. Maybe people could pool the funds if they are really interested.
Very Very expensive. I still have all the salts with me.

I also believe sulphate contributes to nonremovable hardness, while chloride contributes to salinity. Comments/ correction much appreciated on this aspect.
Absolutely wrong.

Actually plants naturally concentrate potassium. Even human cells contain 20 times more potassium than sodium. Once plants concentrate potassium it is used as a currency in their roots. It is exchanged for other cations. To take in one ferrous ion the plant shells out two potassium ions (ferrous has two positive charges and potassium has one and electrical neutrality is maintained when micronutrients are taken up).
No comment. This is new territory for me. I need to read up.
