Through  browsing  and  my  research  along  with  providing  cool  water  and  other  stuff  it  prefers  acidic  water  a  lot..
U  can  try  it  out  also,  in  my  ADA+RO  water  tank  its  growth  rate  is  higher  as  compared  to  the  normal  one..

You  also  can  try  it  out  in  2  seperate  places  and  see  the  difference.

Some  pics  from  my  tank  .......

Quite  an  easy  plant  to  grow,  less  demanding  in  terms  of  light,  temp  or  fertilizers.  The  parameters  of  the  tank  above  are  9  inch  cube,  DIY  nano  canister  filter,  ADA  soil,  one  8000K  Osram  tube  light  shared  with  two  other  tank  (15  in  cubes),  No  dosing  of  fertz  or  CO2,  50%  water  changes  weekly.

 Cheers

 Vince

Tirtha,it  looks  awesome.Hope  to  get  that  kind  of  growth  in  my  tank. Is  co2  absolutely  necessary  for  it  to  thrive.I  am  planning  for  a  low  tech  setup  consisting  of  only  ferns  and  nanas.

Man,Vince  i  got  to  tell  you  i  am  a  real  fan  of  your  tanks.I  would  love  to  see  them  in  personal  sometime  in  the  near  future.
Vince,i  now  know  that  it  is  quite  an  easy  plant  to  grow. But  majority  of  the  members  have  posted  that  it  is  very  slow  growing. How  much  time  would  it  take  to  grow  and  cover  an  entire  piece  of  small  wood?  Is  it  slow  growing  than  other  mosses  too..
Arjun,i  would  love  to  see  yours.Do  you  have  it  in  the  forest  of  fangon?

 Dear  friends
i  have  grown  this  moss  as  have  grown  many  other  moses  too.  and  have  experienced  that  though  this  moss  needs  low  light  like  all  other  mosses  but  will  not  grow  if  the  light  is  very  low.  i  have  it  in  my  moss  tank  for  about  a  year  and  somehow  it  was  not  growing  even  though  the  plant  did  not  die.(the  tank  was  2ft  deep  and  with  four   6500k  aquarium  2ft  long  tube  lights  for  5ftX1.25ft  tank)
then  i  added  a  halogen  to  the  tank  and  the  halogen  focuses  on  the  fissidens  directly.  the  halogen  is  switched  on  for  2  hours  daily.  Ever  since  the  fissidens  which  is  placed  at  the  bottom  of  the  tank  has  started  showing  wonderful  growth.
regards  and  hope  the  info  is  useful  for  U
 kuldip

Hey  Kuldip.Nice  to  hear  from  someone  who  is  in  Shimla.I  would  love  to  see  your  fissidens  fontanus  pics.
I  guess  you  are  getting  such  awesome  growth  because  of  your  region's  cool  weather   Very Happy  .you  see, during  summers  it  gets  unbearably  hot  here. To  top  it  all,  i  dont  have  a  fan  attached  to  my  hood  Sad  Now  however, its  winter  and  mosses  would  be  extremely  happy.

It  does  not  do  well  in  high  temp.grows  in  low  temperature  and  co2.i  dont  add  any  fertilizer.water  change  is  30%  twice  weekly.and  light  is  a  single  36w  pll  6hrs  on  a  2  ft  tank.
 Slow  growing  than  other  mosses.

 Regards
 Raj..

To  add,  I  have  got  my  starter  pieces  from  Vince  only!  They  grew  well,  until  my  tank  go  BBA  and  along  with  that  it  could  not  be  distinguishable  now!

@  Anand,  you  could  try  bleach  dip  or  excel  to  get  rid  of  BBA.  f  fonatnus  is  a  sturdy  plant  and  it  will  survive  the  bleach  dip.

@  hrishi007,  i  also  have  f  fontanus  in  my  2  ft  high  light  tank,  with  water  column  dosing  and  CO2  and  it  grows  much  faster  than  the  other  moss!!  so  what  i  have  experienced  is,  f  fonatnus  can  be  grown  under  various  condition  from  high  light  to  low  light  to  low  temp  to  med  temp  however  the  rate  growth  will  be  different.

 Cheers

 Vince
