 Hi  Friends,

Do  we  need  to  fill  the  glass  diffuser  before  connecting  it?

I  do  have  a  spiral  glass  diffuser  (2.5"  length).  Till  these  day's  it  was  not  filled  with  water  completely.  Only  1/4th  of  the  diffuser  were  filled  with  water.  Today  I  tried  filling  the  diffuser  completely  with  water  (It  took  1/2  hr  to  fill  it).  After  filling  the  diffuser  with  water  completely,  I  noticed  that  the  co2  bubbles  are  much  finer  which  is  coming  out!!!   Smile   Very Happy

Previously,  the  bubbles  where  not  this  finer..  Is  there  any  effect  on  filling  the  diffuser  completely  with  water??

Any  body  had  experienced  this  effect?

There  is  no  need  to  fill  water  in  a  diffuser,  In  fact  after  you  fix  it  and  cut  off  CO2  some  water  will  end  up  going  into  it  because  of  the  reverse  pressure.  I  dont  think  it  makes  any  difference  to  the  bubbles  coming  out  either.

Use  "Robin  Liquid  Bleach"  available  in  any  Super  Market,  and  to  reiterate  its  not  Bleaching  Powder  its  "Liquid  Bleach",  Use  a  1  :  10  Bleach  to  water  ratio,  Soak  the  diffuser  in  it  untill  the  ceramic  disc  is  clean,  Wash  properly  before  putting  it  back  in  the  aquarium.

 Shelly,
You  need  to  fill  up  the  CO2  diffuser  with  water,  only  if  you  want  to  see  the  CO2  gas  rising  up  through  the  spiral  of  the  diffuser.  Else,  there  is  no  need.  And  as  Seetaram  mentioned,  there  is  no  relation  between  water  inside  the  diffuser  and  the  CO2  bubble  size.

 Hi,

May  be  your  Ceramic  disc  was  clogged  and  while  filling  the  diffuser,  you  actually  cleaned  the  disc  which  is  creating  the  finer  bubbles  now.

thank  you  seetharam  for  your  advice. In   my  case  co2  bubbles   emerge  only  from  the  one  edge  of  the   ceramic  diffuser  .  I  dont  have  much  experience  with  such  diffuser  as  I  have  been  using  reactors  for  so  long  but  lately  trying  the  effect  of  ceramic  diffuser  and  its  a  brand  new  diffuser  I  bought  from  India  petstore. In  my  thinking  if  the  bubble  could  emerge  from  the  disc,it  would   be  even  finer.
