This  time  around  due  to  heavy  rains,  water  levels  were  high  and  flow  was  swift.  I  had  a  young  friend  for  company  and  a  local  to  take  us  to  the  spot.

After  an  arduous  trek,  we  finally  reached  the  waterbody.  Some  pics-

 Nice,

Looks  a  bit  like  Barilius  bedelisis  to  me,  Golden  colour  and  very  few  stripes.

Could  be  any  other  Barilius  as  well.  Please  throw  some  light  on  what  species  it  is  :-)

 Eagerly  awaiting  :-)

Not  a  single  specimen  of  the  above  fish  was  found.  Perhaps  they  were  in  some  other  part  of  the  jungle  stream.  A  visit  is  due  there  when  the  water  levels  recede  in  a  month  or  so.  The  catch-

Nice  catch,  I  can  only  identify  the  bimaculatus,  other  two  look  very  neat,  are  they  Garras  (cannot  really  make  that  out  from  the  pics)

BTW:  Maybe  it  is  not  the  nicest  way  to  catch  Barilius,  but  if  you  are  unable  to  net  them,  it  is  very  easy  to  catch  them  with  a  line  and  a  very  small  hook.  Throw  a  handful  of  food  in  the  river  and  place  your  bait  in  between  this.  You  will  surely  get  some  of  these  guys  :-).  I  always  wanted  barilius  for  my  tanks  but  did  not  have  a  net  initially,  small  hooks  did  the  trick  :-)

Got  some  more  loaches.  They  buried  into  the  sand  as  soon  as  I  put  them  in  the  photo  tank.  Will  take  a  pic  later  when  they  settle  down.  A  pic  of  the  bigger  shrimp  -

Thanks  man.  We  were  handicapped  for  the  lack  of  proper  hand  nets.  Also  didn't  spot  a  single  specimen  of  that  fish.  Spotted  only  loaches  and  garras.  Btw,  I've  seen  that  small  hook  technique  in  percon  in  the  Tambaraparani  trip.  The  local  ladies  washing  vessels  in  the  river  hooked  lots  of  huge  filamentosus  that  way.  Almost  every  time  they  threw  the  hook  in  with  a  bit  of  rice,  fish  bit!

The  first  one  looks  to  me  more  like  a  Horalabiosa  than  a  Garra.   Is  that  the  loach  you  said  was  semiarmatus?   Looks  more  like  one  of  the  denisonii  complex  one.

No  no  Madhu,  not  this  one.  This  I  know  is  denisonii  complex.  The  ones  like  semiarmatus  were  juvies.  The  bigger  one  definitely  not  a  semiarmatus,  buried  in  the  sand.  So  no  pics  as  of  now  Sad  .
PS:  Horalabiosa?  Interesting.  Missed  having  you  in  the  trip  man.  A  month  later  perhaps?
