 Here  Are  the  details.

CO2  source:  1.5  litre  soft  drink  bottle.

You  have  a  nice  hairgrass  lawn  there  Sudheer..
I  was  planning  to  buy  a  ceramic  diffuser  too  for  my  diy  setup  but  due  to  conflicting  decisions  on  it,i  decided  not  to.Btw,how  many  bottles  are  you  using?  And  for  how  many  days  do  you  get  bubbles  through  your  diffuser?
Could  you  please  put  more  light  on  my  query..

Hrishi  it  will  be  a  good  thread  and  great  encouragement  for  guys  with  lower  budget.
But  I  would  like  to  see  the  full  tank  pictuer  rather  than  guys  showing  a  part  of  which  is  better  and  low  demanding  plants.  Full  tank  will  tell  the  real  story  and  would  be  a  learning  in  plant  selection  etc.
Manyfold  ladder  difuser  would  work  well  with  DIY  co2

 Thanks  Hirishi,
I  use  only  one  bottle  and  it  lasts  for  minimum  15  days  though  the  bouble  strength  reduces,  but  best  way  is  to  have  a  CO2  reactor  if  your  tank  is  big  enough,  as  my  tank  in  the  posted  pic  is  small,  I  am  not  using  reactor  here.  If  we  use  reactor  we  will  have  maiximum  use  of  CO2  produed  and  even  if  the  bubble  rate  reduces  there  may  not  be  much  effect  on  dissoluton  rate  as  reactor  will  try  to  dissolve  maximum.

Reactor  is  very  simple.  It  can  be  made  by  chopping  off  the  bottom  of  a  small  plastic  bottle  and  then   connecting  it  to  your  exsisting  filter  secondary  out  let(  normally  this  will  suck  air  from  out  side  and  pump  to  water  but  it  can  be  used  for  reactor).

You  do  not  need  a  diffucer  in  this  case  what  you  can  do  is  to  leave  the  other  end  of  the  tube  from  CO2  bottle  to  the  bottom  of  the  bottle  connected  to  the  filter  this  way  what  ever  bouble  coming  from  tube  will  get  trapped  in  second  bottle  and  willl  be  pushed  down  and  up  due  to  the  water  current  in  the  second  bottle  generated  by  filter.  I  can  post  pic  of  this  by  evening  after  I  reach  home.

 with  best  regards,
 Sudheer

A  good  thread  indeed...at  the  least  it  should  inspire  people  to  get  into  planted  tanks.

This  was  my  very  first  attempt,  1.5wpg+laterite(no  co2)

Unfortunately  this  old  tank  leaked  from  base  and  had  to  be  pulled  down  in  very  less  time.

My  second  scape,  2wpg  lights+DIY  CO2.  You  can  see  various  avataas  of  this  tank  below.

 when  growth  picked  up

in  best  shape...you  can  see  a  few  dark  spots  due  to  uneven  lighting.

same  tank  left  without  maintenance  for  much  time...

Last  attempt  to  revive  the  same  tank,  before  I  went  for  pressurized.  I  guess  a  month  after  this,  I  completely  pulled  this  setup  down  for  a  complete  new  setup.

One  thing  was  common  in  both  of  the  setups  above,  I  never  had  any  algae  at  all(excepts  for  very  brief  diatms).

Hi  guys  this  was  my  5ft  tank  with  4  bottles  of  2L  DIY  CO2  and  no  fertilizers.  I  remember  I  had  a  algae  blast  in  this  tank  but  after  a  month  it  was  gone  without  using  any  treatment.

And  also  I  forgot  to  add  in  the  above  picture  that  most  of  the  time  the  plants  grew  without  CO2  as  most  of  the  time  i  forget  to  refill  it  and  also  when  the  sugar  price  was  high  !   Very Happy

 Hi  Ruchit,
Nice  tank,  can  you  or  any  one  explain  the  science  behind  CO2  preventing  algae  growth,
is  it  some  thing  like  algae  prefer  less  acidic  water  and  other  plants  prefer  more  acidic  water?
Currently  I  am  pumping  CO2  to   one  of  my  algae  ridden  tank  so  I  thought  of  knowing  the  way  in  which  it  controls  algae
 with  best  regards,
 Sudheer
