Hallo,  I  bought  seven  of  a  species  called  Garra  hugini/hughi.  They  dont  seem  to  be  a  Garra  species  but  couldnt  find  any  close  looking  fish.  Do  any  of  you  know  what  kind  of  species  it  is?

 Hope  for  any  good  answers

 Hi  Jansson,
The  fish  you  have  got  is  definitely  not  a  Garra!  It  looks  to  be  more  of  a  loach  species.

 Try  and  check  here:  http://www.bocje.com/Englishmenu.htm

Definitely  a  loach,  Noemacheilus  or  Schistura  Spp.  by  the  looks  of  it.
Probably  from  N.India,  like  cool,  well  oxygenated,  swiftly  flowing  water.

I  would  also  vote  for  a  Loach.  From  what  is  visible  the  mouth  seems  like  loaches  and  not  garra.  Which  loach..  I  have  no  idea.  sorry  Smile

We  collected  a  similar  fish  last  August  at  Chin  Chi  falls.  They  are  in  Trevor's  planted  tank.  No  one  ever  got  around  to  identifying  them.

They  were  too  small  when  we  got  them  and  I  thought  they  were  Botia  stratiata.....  but    they  are  not  that.  They  definitely  are  some  kind  of  loach  and  not  a  Garra  sp.

Hi!  This  particular  one  is  also  avlbl  in  plenty  in  Kalu  River,  Khadavli  (  W  ),  Dist  Thane,  Outer  Mumbai.  Any  fisharts  frm  Mumbai,  u  can  easily  catch  them,  at  a  very  easy  to  dip-urself  place  near  the  small  island  like  place  more  towards  the  Kasara  end.  There  u  also  can  see  Orange  Chromides,  Garra  sp,  Giant  Danios,  Pencil  danios  and  algae  eating  shrimps  too.  Sorry  could  not  identify  the  above  one  yet.  Crying or Very sad

Ravi,  any  reply  from  ZSI  abt  the  ID  of  the  fish?

Our  fellow  hobbyist  LOF  from  Mumbai  has  sent  me  an  email  to  know  more  abt  the  Khadavli  biotope.  Am  very  pleased  to  see  an  enthusiast's  eagerness  to  visit  the  NATURAL  AQUARIUM.  Here  u  go...  If  u  r  coming  from  Mumbai  CST  end,  u  need  to  take  a  local  train  which  is  either  stationed  for  Asangaon  or  Kasara.  Khadavli  is  the  immd  next  stn  to  Titwala  (  famous  for  the  Ganesha  Temple  ).  Get  down  to  the  left,  i.e  the  WEST  and  take  the  perpendicular  Tar  road.  U  would  meet  a  couple  of  diversions,  one  left  -  towards  the  bridge,  where  tourists  usually  remain  submerged  in  the  knee  deep  water  and  the  other  diversion  -  diagonally  right,  which  would  lead  u  to  the  island  like  formation  -  just  a  15  min  walk.  Thats  it!    Happy  Fishing!!    But  this  is  not  an  ideal  season  to  go  there,  seeing  the  heavy  rains,  obviously  zero  visibility  in  the  fast  flowing  and  muddy  waters  now.  DO  NOT  ENTER  THE  WATER  UNLESS  U  KNOW  TO  SWIM!  I  can't  swim  either    Smile  ,  but  am  so  light  that  i  never  really  drown  Razz

I  had  sent  that  email  to  Dr  K  C  Jayaram.  We  are  not  sure  if  he  is  checking  his  mail  regularly.  We  plan  to  visit  him  shortly  &  we  will  check  with  him  on  this  fish.
