Natives  are  cool  .  .  .  .  but,  the  sad  part  is  that  in  the  video  all  of  them  are  at  30%  of  their  original  colors.

yes  Nayakere  .  .  the  E  maculatus  is  from  south  canara,  they  lose  colour  very  fast,  if  is  pretty  sight  when  you  collect  them  from  the  wild

Me  being  an  poor  hand  in  photography  had  to  use  the  video  to  show  the  fishes  .  .  .  anyway  couple  of  more  snaps

 Super  fish  Nayak   Thumb Up

I  am  sure  there  is  one  more  variant  from  Canara  which  has  real  inferior  mouth  (line  drawn  from  upper  lip  falling  below  eye  orbit).  I  have  a  few  preserved  specimens  from  Gundya.  Any  info  or  live  photos  would  be  interesting.

Nope!  The  one  you  sent  across  are  very  different  from  the  ones  I  have  from  Gundya.  Below  are  both  the  snaps.  The  ones  from  Gundya  are  deeper  and  lack  the  bar  at  the  caudal  tip.  The  one  you  sent  have  a  prominant  band  in  the  caudal  tip  and  are  less  deep.

Right  now  I  cant  saw  if  they  are  just  variants  or  individual  species,  cause  both  body  depth  and  the  caudal  tip  with  band  are  highly  variable  in  the  P.  filamentosus  complex   Smile

Would  be  super  if  you  manage  a  few  live  ones........I  wanna  check  live  colouration.

The  P.  assimilis  sent  by  you

 The  P.  assimilis  from  Gundya

The  juvies  you  gave  are  growing  well..........  they  too  would  be  'peacock  blue'  Very Happy

Most  underrated  barb  IMO.  Got  some  recently  (thanks  Ashwin   Smile  ).  Semi  juvies.  Brilliant  colours  and  they  haven't  settled  in  fully  yet!  Some  snaps-

Hi  Mcgokul,  I  totally  agree  Smile  the  colours  are  beautiful  and  quite  unusual  in  some  ways  ,you  get  the  bright  orangy  red  tips  on  the  caudals  and  as  the  fish  matures  you  get  a  completely  different  shade  of  red  in  the  dorsal  ,  more  like  the  colour  of  blood  ?  mind  having  said  this  we  now  know  there  are  so  many  regional  varients  ,  I  guess  the  colours  can  vary  too   Smile  ?  wonderful  fish  !
