I'd  this  tank  for  more  than  2  years  now.  With  baked  soil  as  bottom  layer  and  topped  up  with  normal  construction  sand.  (Morang)
Over  the  period  of  time  the  tank  transformed  from  low  tech  to  semi  hi  tech  tank.

Gradually  the  fertility  of  soil  was  lost  and  I  was  thinking  of  a  new  scape.  I  already  had  a  few  driftwood  collected  from  my  Kolathur  trip  and  two  bags  of  high  quality  laterite  (thanks  to  Essabee  Sir!).  But  due  to  my  lazy  nature  and  fear  of  other  house  members  it  was  being  postponed  from  one  Sunday  to  the  other.

But  destiny  had  thought  of  something  else  for  me.  First  my  CO2  cylinder  exhausted  within  a  week.  Then  my  Solenoid  Valve  stopped  functioning.  Again  Cladophora  decided  to  invade  my  tank  and  covered  the  foreground  substrate  totally.  As  if  this  was  not  sufficient.  MY  TANK  LEAKED.  It  was  from  bottom  behind.  Aunty  on  the  flat  one  storey  lower  to  me  came  complaining  and  was  real  mad.  I  knew  it  was  my  fault.  But  could  not  help.  Such  a  leak  cannot  be  fixed.  The  whole  tank  needed  to  be  redone.  Was  too  much  tired  of  all  these  things  and  had  almost  lost  the  battle  between  the  hobby  and  destiny.   Sad

 Then  something  struck  my  mind.
THE  TANK  NEEDS  TO  BE  REDONE  (WOW!!!   Cheering  )  Just  a  go  ahead  was  needed  from  the  home  ministry.  That  too  in  April.  The  month  of  fees,  new  textbooks,  new  uniforms  etc.   etc.  etc.  But  finally  she  agreed.
First  of  all  I  needed  a  new  stand.  I  made    this    simple  design.  It  had  space  to  accomodate  three  more  tanks  on  the  lower  shelf.   Cheering
The  hood  looked  a  dabba.  So  a  new  canopy  was  also  planned.  (Will  post  the  design  soon).  The  design  for  canopy  was  rejected  by  me  to  accommodate  some  DIY  gadget  for  cooling  the  waters  in  Lucknow  summers.
A  new  tank  was  already  ordered.
Everything  arrived  on  Saturday.  I  took  my  family  out  for  dinner.  Smile  Came  back  at  12:30  all   Drinking  and  started  working  on  the  assemble  of  stand.  Slept  at  1:30  and  woke  up  at  6:00  am  to  again  start  working.
Hired  a  labour,  another  helping  hand  and  by  4:30  20%  of  the  job  was  completed.  Called  it  a  day.
 Will  post  snaps  soon.
 Woke  up  at

 Thanks  Sandeep,
Yes  I've  these  angels  still  with  me.  They  have  paired  up  and  spawned  umpteen  times.  Most  of  the  time  the  eggs  did  not  hatch.  Only  once  was  I  able  to  raise  the  fry  for  a  week  then  they  also  died.
Tank  is  being  rescaped,  which  means  slight  alter  in  water  conditions.  Keeping  my  fingers  crossed  for  another  spawn.

Looking  forward  to  meet  you.  Lots  and  lots  for  discussion  and  advises.  Have  got  some  work  for  you.

I've  encountered  a  problem  here.  The  bottom  layer  mixed  with  peat  was  topped  up  with  laterite  and  some  water  was  poured  into  it.  The  peat  granuels  started  floating  after  some  hours  and  still  have  not  sunk.  I  haven't  put  the  final  layer  of  coarse  sand  and  waiting  for  peat  to  settle  down.
Would  it  settle  down  or  do  I  have  to  remove  it  completely  and  put  it  in  the  filter.

 Saurabh

You  should  put  one  2  inch  layer  of  inert  gravel  (2/3  mm  granules)  on  top  as  the  final  layer  to  ensure  that  the  soil,  laterite  etc  does  not  cloud  the  water.  The  layer  of  gravel  will  hold  down  the  peat  etc.  Water  should  be  added  only  after  the  gravel  layer  is  in  place  and  ensure  that  the  water  flow  does  not  displace  the  gravel.

 Warm  regards.
 Arnab.
