hey Guys,
was planning to set up an 120 gallon fish only tank and was thinking of buying a canister filter 2217 from Eheim.
But the Lfs where I went to,told me that the New JBL Cristalprofi e 900 is better than 2217, in the sense,it has got prefilter's,bio cube's as filter media ,start switch for easy priming,4 your's warranty written on the Box but he promised me a warranty of only one year ,also the spares are easily available. As per the LFS guy this filter is made in germany hence more reliable than eheim since the eheim filters are made in china. Also this guy is an dealer for Eheim in the city.
kindly check the link below for the website.
JBL
I have never used a Canister filter, hence needed opinions from anyone who has used both filters eheim as well as JBL.
Are filter's from JBL reliable?kindly let me know. |

Alright , Below is a part of my PM word to word .......... the rest is not put as it contains pricing information and discussion and that cannot be disucssed in the open forum
"I use Eheim Classic Series (2215 & 2217) which are reliable. I know people who use the JBL CristaProfi series who say that it is good as well, Again its a product made in Germany and from a reputed brand, so it can be considered." |

hey guys,
I have ordered a 400 liter tank in which I m going to keep a couple of oscars.,kindly guide which filter would provide sufficient filteration.
JBL Crisatal profi e 900 or Eheim 2217.
Although their prices, flow rates, Canister volumes are almost similar,JBL Cristal profi e 900 is for Aquariums upto 300l whereas Eheim 2217 is for aquariums upto 600l,
your suggestions would be highly appreciated. |

There is just a 100L/H difference of output between the two. Use any of them, but with a good bio filtration media like EHEIM Substrat Pro, Eheim EfiLav, ADA Bio Rio etc. This type of media should ideally fill 80-90% of your canister chamber.
Also another point to bear in mind is, EHEIM spares are easily available compared to JBL. |

I am using both the filters for my tanks and they both seem to do their job well so its up to you what you would like to buy depending on your budget.
in both my filters I have the following media Seachem Purigine and Seachem Mateix and the water quality is just superb.

Recently, I changed from my factory-fitted Boyu top filter to a JBL Cristal Profi 1500 in my tank. I have not been completely happy with the water quality. Now, 3 months down the line, I started to get a rattling sound from the filter. I found that the impeller had broken. I wonder if the impeller has been a problem from Day 1 or was just of inferior quality.
I'm yet to get a replacement. Its now 10 days since I informed the LFS . I guess spares are not easy to come by. Does anyone have a contact number for a JBL rep in Bangalore that I could talk directly to? I don't trust this shopkeeper.
Why don't you also evaluate the ADA filter? I realize it is a relatively expensive initial expense. Would it pay back in the long term? What do the experts say?

Thanks. But unfortunately, he is the one who has been promising me for the last 12 days "Don't worry sir. You'll get it in 2 days". He should try telling that to my fish. They are mighty worried. |

Hi,
As you mentioned that you are planning to setup a 120gallon fish only tank, is this fresh water or saltwater?

Hi Disney,
I got mine from Varsha AquaMax that Vinod mentioned. But, be warned that it took 21 days for me to receive a replacement for my broken impeller . Spares seem hard to come by. 21 days is enough to destroy an aquarium. Fortunately, I was planning a complete rescaping and hence, the timing was fortunate.
Regards
