Gobiidae - This is large family of fishes..mostly ignored by aquarists....The variety available is quite mindblowing...some exotic colors.... some very drab, some very tiny... some very large, Algae eating to ambush predators..the list goes on!
I have been fascinated by Gobies for some time now and thought it would be a good idea to put up some info, Pics and experience that we have had while keeping these wonderful fishes. |

Nice thread....I dont have much knowledge about goby keeping but would like to share what I know.
The only goby I had is Glossogobius giuris commonly called the tank goby.
Setup preference: It prefered sandy portion of the tank eventhough there were rocks and drift wood in the tank
Water: I had it in freshwater, but a few people say it does well with adding a little salt.
Temperament: Peaceful to fish larger than its mouth, did not see it fin nipping or chasing fish around
Feeding: Its a predatory fish, it swallowed a few tankmates smaller than itself. Did not accept dry food but took frozen bloodworms.
Max size: Mine was around 3 inches but I have collected specimens more than a foot long in the wild.

Maximum Size : Around 2"
Distribution : India,Malaysia,Indonesia |

The tank goby - G. Giuris
Extremely hardy and eats anything that fits in it's mouth - including tankmates.
The blennies - fun fish to keep as long as you've chosen the tankmates properly. Provide lots of hiding spaces and rocks to form "territories"
O. zebra
And the "horned" cousin - O. smithii
Cheers, |

Lovely pics.
Omobranchus smithi I found is more docile and shy than O.zebra. Otherwise, their feeding habits, water condition etc are the same. |

Some Glossogobius giuris I had in the past, loved their aggression during feeding time.

Anyone kept Gobiopsis macrostoma??? Got 'em a coupla years ago and managed to keep 'em alive only for a few weeks. The most beautiful Goby IMO. Finicky buggers though. |
