My Marine is just about a year and thought I would post up the journey here
The tank then
With the LFS guy ditching midway after making the aquariums at my place, I got the stand painted, plywood base cut to size and moved the aquariums on to the stand. Here it is
Cycling the tank with the robust Seargant Majors
Few additions down the line
After a round of ich which decimated, majority of my fishes, the latest additions come
Not having great success in this department
btw what is this called?

Fixed your links..
Now regarding your setup and corals..
1. You really need to add more lighting. otherwise the corals will soon die.
2. Get a better skimmer.
3. Research before you buy any corals or fish. The acropora you have is slowly dieing off due to bad water parameters, i.e. high phosphates or due to lack of basic trace elements.
4. The last pic is of a turbinaria peltata - Pagoda Coral.
Overall, the fish look nice and healthy. |

Your blue lights need to be replaced by actinics. They are not the same |

DJ, Marine is a costly hobby.
I would go the full length or not start at all. |

your lightning is bad, u need more blue..... here in india u dont get anything more than 10000k, people often make mistake purchasing corals without the knowledge of lighting..... kindly do your research before buying corals, they are vanishing from the sea so save and share them by fraging..... i did 2 year research before geting into marine tank.... now iv got 12000k whte and 9000k ocean-blue light from singapore.... use 6-7WPG light for marine if u purchase lights from here that are 6500k, if u using 3 white then use 3 blue.... u get true actinic03 from a exotic light dealer, here in mumbai u get them for 1500 bucks (true actinic03 are purple) they are the best for corals........ |

Thanks GatorX for fixing the links and your comments.
* I have a bigger Weipro 2018 but since this one is pulling out decent enough junk (3/4 cup in a week), I kept up with it.
* On the reef side, I can see something is not going right, but I cannot put a finger on what it is. There were three changes during that time. a. Changing from Aquacraft to RedSea b. Re-arranging the rock work c. Introducing my desi chiller. (I will get the pic of desi chiller soon ).
I am not sure which one has caused the problem but they seem unhealthy. Only Pagoda is looking good.
* I am adding three trace elements - iodine, stromium and active calcium to the tank, but dont see much difference.
* As much as the Costs of the marine side, I think Planning and Patience are as important and which are underrated. Patience I have learned the hard way after having the Ich. Thinking about how I would do, if I have to go it again, I would change quite a few here, esp on Sump, Substrate and on the Hood Design front. Other thing which I had done wrong is doing piece by piece approach, instead of going all in, due to cost considerations.
* Lighting is on the correction mode. I will add a bit more and again to cut running costs, these will have to be LEDs.
* Most of the lights emitting blue color are at the higher end of the spectrum and in my guess that is the lighting needed by the marine tank. Once I add LEDs, I will increase a bit more blue to the tank.
* Considering that I jumped into this hobby with hardly a month of maintaining (and killing) two gold fish in a bowl and maintaining another 3 feet of my bro for a month, I think I am doing not so bad |

PB's are prone to itch and they look good.
Good FOWLR, reef set up will take a long way to go.
Keep up the good work and with loads of patience , you should be able to achieve a good reef setup.
Tks

djay, nice tank to me but you need to read and know about marine flora and fauna more if you want to keep a Good FOWLR or reef setup.
Please look into the lighting part as some of the members have suggested.
Keep it up.
