Post the chart here that has rate slabs, specifically the one local to you.
I can help just like most of the rest.
Cheers! |

A warehouse has 25 - 400 watt metal halide fixtures and 20 - 2 lamp 4 foot fluorescent fixtures that are on 24 hours per day. What is the daily cost to light the warehouse at $0.08/kWh?
Metal Halide = 25 x 450 watts/fixture (lamp + ballast) = 11,250 watts
Fluorescent = 20 x 100 watts/fixture (lamps + ballast) = 2,000 watts
11,250 + 2,000 = (13,250 watts x 24 hours) / 1,000 watts/kW = 318 kWh per day
318 kWh x $0.08/kWh = $25.44 per day to light the warehouse. |

Convert 500 W to kW by dividing by 1,000: 500/1000 = 0.5 kW
Multiply the kW by the hours: 0.5 kW x 10 hours = 5 kWh = 5 units of electrical energy.
To get the daily cost, multiply the daily kWh by the unit cost.
BUT
The power usage is 0.5 kw, and it does not matter how long it is on. When it is off, the power usage is 0. You are confusing power and energy. Energy is power multiplied by time. The unit of energy is kilowatt hours, i.e., the power in kilowatts times the time in hours. |

It will be 12.6 units per month based on your consumption...per unit charge you can get from your latest bill |

No way!! You went wrong..VERY VERY wrong with the calculations somewhere...you are imlplying that people using 150W MH pay 12600*2(150W instead of 75)*5(unit cost) = 1,26,000 Rs per month

Calculations are simple. Just keep basics in mind.
I unit = 1000 W or 1KW of electricity consumption. We pay bill based on units consumed. I usually hit the 5.5Rs/unit slab.
A 70W MH running for 6 hours in a day will consume 420W, in a month - 420*30 = 12600 (@aquariumer - you stopped here. No step marking - unlike good ol' schools days ). Thats the wattage consumed over a month. Divide it by 1000 to get the figure in KW - that is same as units consumed i.e 12.6. Multiply it with rate. 12.6 X ~5 = 63 Rs/month.
That is cheap! or did I go wrong anywhere |

Let me simplify.
Cost per month = W*d*U*30/1000
where
W = consumption in watts
d = duration per day
U = unit cost
for the above case, elec bill = 70*6*5*30/1000 = 63 Rs/month. |

Hey Raj,
Is it lesser in Hyderabad??
More over its a variable slab, if you burn more, the Unit charge is more. |
