Thanks  Partha  for  the  link  that  really  explained  more  about  their  behaviour.

Are  you  referring  to  the  1st  comment  in  the  link  ???

It  has  statement  in  it  saying  "make  sure  their  tankmates  are  at  least  4  or  bottom  feeder",  what  does  that  mean  ???

Are  you  suggesting  me  not  to  keep  them  together  ??

 I  really  like  these  fishes......

 Regards
 Ansh

Ya  I  understand  that  you  like  these  fishes  a  lot  but  if  you  want  to  see  fishes  to  live  in  your  tank  and  grow  then  you  have  to  go  as  per  their  compatibility(to  find  which  fish  can  stay  with  which  one)...dont  want  to  see  you  are  loosing  your  small  tetras  after  every  night...

"tankmates  are  at  least  4"--not  sure

"bottom  feeder"--fishes  those  search  food  from  the  base  level  of  the  tank,  like  most  of  the  cat  fishes.

 Ansh

You  cant  keep  them  together............   Sad

Paracheirodon  simulans   are  small  fishes  and  in  the  wild  are  food  for  many  amazonian  fishes,  including  altum  angels.

pls  dont  do  this  mistake,  you  will  see  the  p.  simulans  missing  everyday.  Water  quality  requirment  is  similar  to  to  both.

also  p.  simulans  do  well  in  soft  water,  temp  abt  25  to  27  C.  compatible  mates  incl.  -  danios,  few  rainbows,  flying  fox, etc.  They  do  well  with  bottom  feeders  -  cory  cats, etc.  Most  other  community  fishes  tend  to  eat  them.  even  dwarf  gaurami's   other  larger  tetras  like  red  eye  tetra, etc.

Try  the  link  below  they  tend  have  them  do  contact  them,  they  will  let  u  know.  Also  a  supplier  in  Chennai  supplies  them  but  i  have  lost  their  no.
 http://aquasourceindia.com/freshwater_fish.htm

Pterophyllum  altum  these  guys  will  get  along  with  medium  aggressive  fishes.  Also  many  are  captive  bred  so  will  get  along  is  slightly  harder  water.  On  my  trips  to  chennai  i  have  seen  them  regularly,  so  your  LFS  will  get  them.  Though  they  will  be  in  a  group  with  other  angels,  not  segregated  &  bred.  Most  LFS  &  wholesalers  dont  know  the  difference  so  all  are  sold  as  angels.  Just  be  patient  ,  I  have  seen  these  quite  often  in  LFS  supplies  sent  from  Chennai  to  other  cities.

 Cheers!

Sad   I  really  loved  these  fishes  and  wanted  ti  keep  them  together

But  as  you  and  partha  are  suggesting  ,  I  think  I  should  drop  the  idea  of  keeping  them  together  or  can  keep  them  in  separate  tank...

Talking  about  the  LFS  getting  altums  for  me  thats  not  at  all  possible......  The  guy  said  the  cost  for  2-3pairs  is  not  at  all  economical  ,  I  should  place  an  order  for  a  min  of  10-15pairs.  Thats  the  reason  I'm  looking  for  someone  who  can  provide  me  altums  easily.

 Regards
 Ansh

Ya  you  are  right  ....  He  was  saying  that  there  is  no  point  getting  2-3  pairs  because  mortality  rate  is  also  invloved....  I  told  him  with  those  15  pairs  I  can  open  a  new  Fish  Shop  in  your  locality  as  your  competition.....  Just  because  of  all  this  I  want  someone  to  help  me  buy  these  fish.....

@  Krash  -  the  link  posted  by  you  www.aquasourceindia.com,  they  have  clearly  mentioned  that  retail  queries  can  not  be  handled.  Only  orders  min  of  Rs.1*,***/-  can  be  handled  for  the  time  being.....

anyways  i  will  try  &  get  u  the  other  no.  I  lost  my  cell  few  months  back  &  i  lost  these  nos.

Altum  angels  -what  your  LFS  is  asking  is  unreasonable,  hopefully  some1  in  the  forum  can  help  u  &  courier  it  to  u.

 Best  of  luck

Have  you  checked  the  price  of  those  Altums  there??
If  they  are  sold  as  regular  angels,  most  likely  to  be  Peruvian  Scalares  which  resemble  P.  Altums  and  also  priced  almost  20%  that  of  Altums.

 Hi  Yogesh,

What  u  mentioned  is  a  very  valid  point,

When  we  (me  &  friend  -  angel  enthusiast)  had  gone  to  Chennai  (2.5yrs  bck)   he  noticed  this  P.  Altum  in  batch  that  these  guys  where  receiving.   I  am  no  expert  in  P.Altums  but  my  friend  has  been  keeping  angels  for  many  years,  (he  had  bought  4  at  one  time  ,  1  died,  he  was  looking  for  more)  he  noticed  it  &  struck  a  deal  with  them  for  3  pairs,  in  that  one  was  a  P.Altum.  was  of  a  medium  size  had  all  the  noticeable  traits  of  the  altums-  notched  face  ,  brownish  stripes  with  white  thinner  ones,  reddish  color  extending  to  the  fins,  also  later  we  spotted  it  showed  a  black  spot  near  the  operculum.  Its  grown  now  since  then  &  large  like  a  P  altum.   but  sadly  he  lost  one  more  from  his  set  so  is  back  again  to  3.  I  guess  that  he  was  lucky,  but  I  have  heard  many  people  notice  Altums  accidentally  like  this.  In  my  experience  many  shops  dont  know  what  P.altum  is,  the  boy  at  shop  in  chennai  when  we  bought  it  called  it  a  Zebra  Angel.

But  You  are  absolutely  right  that  many  Peruvian  scalare  are  sold  as  Altum  to  customers  at  those  rates  saying  its  a  discount.

The  thing  that  adds  to  this  is  there  many  debates  of  P  Altums  origins,  &  speculated  Sub  varieties.  Many  a  forums  of  angel  community  i  have  seen  them  mentioning  Altum  varities  like  the  Brazilian  Altum,  Peruvian  Altum,  Negro  Altum, etc.  with  how  they  distinguish  them. Many  scientist  dont  agree  with  this  too,  &  shun  it  as  a  myth  &  publish  articles  on  the  same.  (mentioning  a  few  below.)

 http://www.angelfish.net/VBulletin/archive/index.php?t-12958.html
 http://www.angelsplus.com/ArticleWildAngelfish.htm
 http://www.finarama.com/tba/chronicles/peruvianscalare.htm

It  would  be  nice  if  you  or  others  like  you  experienced  hobbyist  or  Seniors  in  the  trade  can  post  a  detail  article  on  this.  It  would  help  the  first  time  P.altums  hobbyist  &  many  others  incl.  me  gain  more  knowledge  on  the  subject.  Also  prevent  many  from  being  mis-directed  or  cheated.

 Regards

Can  you  post  a  pic  of  your  friend  Altum  Angel?  I  haven't  seen  them  in  Kolathur  before.
