Can  you  post  a  pic  of  your  friend  Altum  Angel?  I  haven't  seen  them  in  Kolathur  before.

 Hi  Betta  ,

I  have  few  pics  with  me  posting  those  below,  he  is  currently  in  US  on  project  deputations,  will  post  latest  pics  as  i  get  them.  I  believe  his  father  in  law  is  taking  care  of  them  now.

Few  details:,  we  went  to  Chennai  with  a  person  (James)  who's  friend  was  in  the  aquarium  trade.  He  took  us  to  different  breeders  &  suppliers.  We  where  shopping  around,  also  picking  up  for  our  friends,  Flower  horns,  Discus, cichlids  mostly. Then  one  guy  by  the  name  Tamil  took  us  to  a  guy's  house  (i  think).  where  he  had  a  few  cemented  tanks  &  aquariums.  Tamil  said  this  guy  had  received  a  fresh  supply  of  angels,  &  keeps  nice  varieties,  so  Anoop  was  interested,  we  went  there.  when  we  reached  there,  his  boys  where  receiving  some  stock,  &  we  picked  up  couple  of  angels  &  the  one  altum.  (which  my  friend  spotted  in  the  received  bag).  Also  picked  up  2  platinums  &  golden  pearl  scales.  few  cherry  barbs  &  a  senegal  bichir  too.

 regards

Looks  like  Altums  to  me  but  if  you  take  somebody  else's  pic,  crop  it  and  claim  it  to  be  your  friends,  does  that  count?

 Bravo!!   ROFL
The  angels  in  the  pictures  were  indeed  altums  but  was  waiting  for  the  confirmation  if  such  kinda  exotics  are  available  so  easily  at  LFS  there.
Only  Chennai  guys  can  know  better  what  is  available  at  Kolathur  &  Chennai.  Also  Super  Kings  like  Beta  knows  better  which  picture  is  copied  from  where.  Clapping

P.Altum.  was  of  a  medium  size  had  all  the  noticeable  traits  of  the  altums-  notched  face  ,  brownish  stripes  with  white  thinner  ones,  reddish  color  extending  to  the  fins,  also  later  we  spotted  it  showed  a  black  spot  near  the  operculum

Not  all  P.  Altums  have  reddish  color  on  their  fins.  Colour  trait  varies  as  per  collection  area.
 P.  Altums  with  reddish  hue  on  dorsal,  forehead  &  even  on  body  are  known  as  'Red  Altums'  &  fetch  higher  price  compared  to  regular  Altums.

 Sorry  to  hear  that,

But  honestly,  why  do  i  get  this  feeling  that  older  members  in  the  forum  do  put  down  new-members  posting  things  that  they  dont  agree  with  or  think  that  new  -members  dont  know  much.
Sorry  if  i  am  sounding  augmentative,   Sad
but  i  felt  the  same  when  i  read  couple  of  posts.

The  idea  of  a  forum  is  to  share  experience,  &  information.  Also  i  didnt  say  i  am  an  expert  in  Altums,  or  that  i  have  kept  or  is  keeping  them.  I  had  a  friend  (got  intoduced  when  we  met  in  an  aquarium  shop)  from  who  i  heard  1st  about  altums.  So  if  u  read  my  post  i  have  said  anyone  with  experience  can  add  more  about  altums  &  i  raised  a  doubt  about  altums.  Which  Yogesh  has  addressed  one  in  his  replies  ,  which  i  have  learned  from  as  well.

But  this  is  a  fact  that  when  we  went  to  chennai,  he  did  pick  up  this  angel  &  he  identified  it  as  an  Altum,  also  i  dont  have  to  make  up  this  story  because  i  don't  get  any  credit  for  it.  So  it  would  be  silly  of  me  to  simply  say  stuff.  He  felt  its  an  Altum,  he  explained  why  he  felt  so.

@  yoesh  -  to  say  that  chennai  u  never  get  many  varities  is  too  forcefull.  I  agree  Altums  are  rare  &  dam  expensive  so  it  was  a  suprise  for  my  friend  (Anoop)  to  find  them.  Pls  note  I  never  said  he  picked  all  six  fishes  from  chennai,  He  accidentally  found  one.  He  initially  got  4  Altums  from  a  person  by  the  name  sanath  (sata  cruz  -  Mumbai).who  gave  it  to  him  when  he  left  for  london. He  carried  them  with  him  when  he  got  transfered  to  blore.  By  the  time  i  met  him  ,he  had  lost  one,  &  he  said  that  these  where  expensive  and  was  learning  about  them.  Many  a  times  you  do  find  varities  that  are  rare  &  many  people  i  have  met  claim  they  have  too,  (but  rarely  though)  also  sometimes  in  a  batch  with  other  fish  &  unknowingly  sold  by  the  shop  person-  cause  he  didnt  know  its  value.
Few  accounts  i  can  remember  are-  clown  swordtail,  santa  claus  swortails,  even  once  freshwater  puffer  to  name  a  few.  There  is  lot  of  stock  that  lands  there  &  in  these  shipments  rarley  but  some  very  rare  exotic  varities  land  up  with  other  fish.  It  happens  even  in  the  Australia  &  U.S  where  strict  import  norms  are  present.  (have  heard  acoounts  talking  about  how  they  got  lucky)

@  beta-  i  checked  you  link,  your  are  right  it  does  look  like  the  same  but  cut.
I  am  sorry  beta-  But  honestly  i  didnt  download  &  cut.  I  am  not  a  very  computer  savvy  guy-  don't  know  any  image  modifying  software.  Also  if  i  knew  that  would  be  stupid  to  do,  as  i  am  no  expert  on  Altums,  with  people  here  being  more  knowledgeable  it  would  be  blunder.

I  have  been  into  fish  keeping  for  sometime,  but  joined  this  forum  recently  becasue  i  was  never  into  forums  or  social  network  too  much,(I  still  do  e-mails  a  lot)  I  was  not  a  member  of  any  clubs  so  never  knew  about  an  indian  forum.  when  a  friend  who  was  checking  about  veil  tail  oscars  came  across  the  forum  &  showed  me  a  few  articles,  I  read  more  posts  &  i  felt  i  could  add  a  lot,  particulary  in  fish  diseases  section  which  is  an  area  i  have  been  working  on,  also  about  cichlids.  Also  since  its  a  Indian  hobbyist  forum  &  in  India  fish  treatments  are  difficult,  many  suffer  &  loose  their  beloved  pets;  which  i  will  not  say  i  am  an  expert  but  i  can  defnitley  add  a  lot  more,  because  some  information  in  those  post  i  felt  were  lacking.  And  i  have  posted  few  replies  on  diseases  &  cichlids,  in  detail(pls.  do  check),  &  i  think  i  was  helpful  based  on  their  replies.

Also  when  u  asked  i  had  to  look  back  e-mails  about  1.5  to  2  yrs  back,  in  the  clutter  i  posted  most  of  the  pics  he  sent  me.  May  be  i  did  a  mistake  there  by  posting  the  pics  wrongly  &  not  properly.
Sincerly  Sorry  about  that  Beta.  But  i  will  try  to  get  in  touch  with  Anoop  &  post  his  latest  pics,  I  have  not  been  in  touch  with  him  much  after  he  moved  to  cochin  or  dont  have  his  latest  pics,  also  dont  know  if  his  altums  have  survived,  because  he  was  down  to  3  again  last  i  know.  As  i  get  his  new  pics,  i  will  post,  more-so  because  i  want  to  clear  his  name.

Regret  any  inconvinience  it  may  have  cost  other  members  too.

 Cheers!

You  have  think  yourself  why  you  get  such  feeling.  Because  here  on  IAH,  majority  of  members  have  good  bonding  and  treat  this  place  as  learning  center  for  the  hobby.  If  you  read  the  entire  thread  correctly,  you  will  realize  that  nobody  tried  to  put  you  down  anywhere.

Its  not  even  a  week  since  you  have  joined,  so  making  such  remarks  against  senior  members  (or  to  that  matter  against  anyone)  is  totally  unacceptable.
Spend  some  more  time  here  and  you  will  know  the  synchronization  amongst  IAH  members.  We  might  have  lesser  members  compared  to  other  international  aquatic  forums,  but  the  standard  of  discussions  here  have  always  been  consistently  high.

I  never  questioned  the  authenticity  of  altums  you  or  your  friend  had.  But  suggested  the  possibility  of  altum  replicas  of  P.Scalares  if  they  were  being  sold  so  cheaply.  Then  you  came  up  with  pictures  of  true  altums  copied  from  the  internet  attached  to  your  posts  saying  they  belong  to  your  friend.  When  Senior  Admin  directs  you  to  the  original  source  of  images,  you  try  to  justify  your  goof-ups  in  various  ways.  Please  note  we  do  not  welcome  copy-pasting  copyrighted  articles,  images  or  any  kind  of  material.  That  doesn't  mean  that  we  are  fine  with  copy-pasting  of  non-copyrighted  material.  We  have  encountered  many  such  incidences  here  where  the  copycat  culprit  have  dug  his  own  grave,  so  always  be  honest  to  yourself.

Accept  the  feedback  in  constructive  manner  and  move  on.
