|
|
I have a largely Cichlid tank to which I introduced 4 yellow cichlids and some blue dolphins about 2 weeks back.
The feed is largely flakes and pellets and within 2-3 minutes these are gobbled up.
Since the last 2 days, one of the Yellow Cichlid is not eating anything and is found hovering at the bottom
in the sand, in some corner behind sponge filter or under some plants. It is refusing to come out.
Would appreciate, if someone could give the solution to this problem as I fear I might lose this one.
Best Regards,
K Ram |

seperate it to a different tank or create a partition in your current tank so that no other fish disturbs it, it should recover in a while, check for its feces , is it white in colour?? a pic of the fish would be really helpful |

Yellow lab do not seem to do well in small numbers. The bullying is very much present.
Having a larger numbers and many hiding places seem to help. |

Sandeep, Hrishi..
Thanks for the inputs on my issue with the yellow cichlid.
In my 6 footer tank, I have around 25 fish, out of which now there are three of these yellow ones.
Do you feel, I should increase these numbers to resolve the problem ?
I have some driftwoods which gives them sufficient place to hide.
Think I should add some rocks too ?

If they are getting harrased by the other cichlids, better increase their numbers.Adding driftwoods in a such a tank is not really advisable, due to the fact that they would make the water acidic.Your idea of adding rocks is a good one.Make sure you create enough hiding spaces.Posting a picture of your tank would definetely help. |

Ram,
Depends on what are the other cichlids you have in that tank. Yellow labs are much less aggressive when compared to other cichlids and will be prone to be intimidated. Auratus, Orange Morphs are something which are more notorious |

In addition to yellow labs and blue dolphin, what other cichlids do you have in the tank.
The picture is not visible at my comp due to firewall issues.
Driftwoods are not added in Lake Malawi tanks, rocks are a beter option.
This was one of my setups.

Sandeep,
Thanks for the feedback.
Well my tank has the following species:
2 Black Angels
4 Severums
4 Blue Dolphins
6 Tiger Barbs
3 Silver Dollars
2 Firemouth
3 Yellow Lab
1 Red tailed Shark
Feeding - Spirulina flakes and Pellets - for Cichlids
Substrate is Golden sand (fine type)
Plants are all - artificial
No rocks - but 2 large driftwoods.
Filteration - Eheim 2217 - continuous
2 aerators - continuous
30% water changed monthly
About a year now - no major issues except the recent casualty.
Could it be due to something that could have gone into
the Yellow Labs guts - accidentally - something it could not digest ?
Regards,

Bro, you have the wrong combination of fishes in the first instance.Severums, dolphins, firemouths and labs are uncompatible with each other. They would obviously pick on each other, wont they?
You have a fairly large tank to house them.Apart from this uncompatibility factor, i dont find anything else wrong with your tank. |

Hrishi,
Yes, that could be - but it's like the 'Mumbai Local Train' - no one is compatible, but they adjust in this ' Zindagi Ka Safar'
As mentioned in my earlier post - been a year - no issues - except the recent casualty. The other three yellow labs are doing just fine.
