 Hi,

Long  since  any  competition.  Here  is  one....

I  have  clicked  two  pictures  of  the  Danio  rerio(Zebra  fish,  wild  caught).  Both  were  clicked  in  identical  camera  settings, except  for  one  parameter!
Guess  which  picture  correctly  represents  the  fish,  the  different  parameter  between  the  two  pictures  and  explain  in  a  few  words  why?

 The  Prize?  An  IAH  cap

 Regards,

Is  the  fish  out  of  water?  The  second  snap  the  fish  appears  to  be  bent  as  in  jumping  to  get  back  in  water.  Hope  it's  alive  in  the  first  snap....
One  is  with  flash  and  other  without.

 Thats  an  interesting  competition

 Lemme  try

The  second  depicts  the  fish  more  natural.  I  feel  the  white  balance  has  been  adjusted  between  both  the  snaps.  The  top  one  is  sunlight  and  below  one  is  auto  or  normal.

 Rimpel,
 The  question  is  three  tiered....
 1)  Which  is  the  only  different  camera  parameter  between  the  two  pictures.
 2)  Which  picture  correctly  represents  the  fish,  as  in  "natural".
 3)  In  a  few  words,  Why?

First  picture  is  looking  yellowish  which  hide  the  natural  colour  of  fish.  But  second  pictures  looks  more  natural  than  1st.

 1)  Which  is  the  only  different  camera  parameter  between  the  two  pictures.
 Exposure
 2)  Which  picture  correctly  represents  the  fish,  as  in  "natural".
 2nd
 3)  In  a  few  words,  Why?
In  nature,  usually  for  moving  objects  the  exposure  is  not  that  high.

 My  stupid  guesses   Very Happy

 1)  White  Balance
 2)  I  would  go  with  the  first  picture  as  natural.
 3)  First  photo  is  warmer  compared  to  the  second  photo,  with  no  apparent  change  in  highlights/  OOF  areas  between  the  2  pics,  exposure  and  aperture  get  ruled  out.

 OK  let  me  try  too..

 1)  Which  is  the  only  different  camera  parameter  between  the  two  pictures.

 Shutter  Speed
 1.  Slow  Shutter
 2.  fast  Shutter

 2)  Which  picture  correctly  represents  the  fish,  as  in  "natural".
 first  one

 3)  In  a  few  words,  Why?
First  picture  look  good  in  compare  to  second,  but  first  picture   showing  fish  true  colours..

 Hi

In  my  opinion,  the  second  pic  represents  the  true  color  of  the  fish.

The  first  pic  seems  to  be  underexposed  using  an  aperture  setting  which  is  above  8.  Second  pic  seems  to  be  perfect  and  the  aperture  setting  seems  to  be  just  right  maybe  around  4-5.6.  The  shutter  speed  seems  to  be  constant  for  both  the  photos.

 My  reasoning..
Underexposed  photos  tend  to  highlight  yellow  and  the  black  background  turns  brownish.

 Regards

 Sandeep

 The  EXIF  is  still  there.
So  all  questions  other  than  the  Most  natural  one  is  not  valid   Very Happy

Comparing  EXIF  data  for  both  these  pics
 Pic  1  :  Shutter  1/125  sec
 Pic  2  :  Shutter  1/80  sec

Since  the  shutter  speeds  are  different,  I  would  then  go  for  the  second  pic  as  the  most  natural  since  the  first  one  would  then  still  be  underexposed  due  to  the  higher  shutter  speed.

Since  this  was  a  competition,  EXIF  data  was  not  compared  earlier.

 Regards

 Sandeep
