Mudassir  gave  me  a  pair  of  Kribensis  (Pelvicachromis  pulcher)  around  one  month  back.  I  housed  them  in  a  2.5X1.5X1.5  bare  bottom  tank.  (The  tank  will  become  planted  soon.)  The  female  apparently  lost  her  tail  fin  during  the  journey  from  Hyderabad  to  Bangalore.  Thankfully  the  tail  grew  back.

 The  pair

They  were  tank  bred  (F2)  and  lost  their  shyness  soon.  Few  Tiger  barbs  added  as  dithers  seemed  to  help.

The  male  Krib  with  the  dithers.

They  colored  up  quite  well  on  a  diet  of  frozen  Artemia,  Do-Aqua  garlic,  Hikari  Micro  wafers  and  occasional  mosquito  larvae.

 The  male

 The  female

 To  be  contd...........

Nice  to  see  them  doing  so  well.  If  im  not  mistaken,  this  is  part  of  the  same  clutch  which  was  born  at  mudassir's  place  and  raised  by  me.   Smile

 @Mudassir:  Can  you  confirm?

 Regards,
 Biswadeb

hrishi007  and  Vignesh  Babu:  I  am  a  bit  busy  and  the  plan  to  make  the  tank  a  planted  one  keeps  getting  postponed.  I  did  not  expect  them  to  breed,  let  alone  this  soon  :-)  The  tank  will  be  converted  soon,  maybe  this  weekend.

Biswadeb:  Probably  you  are  correct.  Mudassir  will  confirm.

 Warm  regards.
 Arnab.

 ...  Contd

Initially  the  male  was  a  bit  aggressive  towards  the  female.  I  put  in  two  pots  and  the  aggression  became  nil.
The  pair  soon  started  to  move  in  and  out  of  the  two  earthen  pots.  One  of  the  pots  placed  within  a  drift  wood  was  more  preffered.

The  pair  now  moved  about  together.

The  dithers  kept  out  of  the  way  but  the  lone  Corydora  blundered  in  at  times  and  was  lightly  reprimanded.

13th  early  morning  I  noticed  something  different.  The  male  moved  across  the  mouth  of  one  of  the  pots  and  kept  it  covered  when  I  approached.  Shining  a  torch  inside  the  pot  revealed  wrigglers.

I  removed  most  of  the  fry  to  a  small  tank  with  a  sponge  filter  and  some  moss  like  algae.

Fry  as  on  14th  July  2011

I  left  some  fry  in  the  main  tank  for  the  mother  to  care  for  as  she  seemed  so  devoted.  I  also  want  to  observe  the  parenting  nature  of  Cichlids,  a  first  for  me.

I  am  waiting  for  the  egg  sacs  to  get  absorbed  before  starting  to  feed  hard  boiled  egg  yolk.  I  don't  think  I  will  be  able  to  squeeze  out  time  to  setup  a  BBS  hatchery.

I  will  post  more  pics  as  the  fry  develops.

 Warm  regards.
 Arnab.
