first  suggestion  please  remove  the  tube  or  pipe  its  very  distracting

planted  tanks  depicts  nature  and  by  the  way  nature  dosent  have  plastic  pipes

tell  him/her  to  move  all  tall  plants  from  fore  ground  to  back  ground

sparsely  planted  tank  looks  odd  so  cut  all  stem  plants  like  cobomba  and  replant  the  bottom  end  together  ...........  this  will  look  lush  and  dense

making  both  back  corner  dense  gives  nice  look  and  the  fish  can  also  be  seen  clearly

 my  part  of  suggestion

I  agree  about  removing  the  pipe,  unless  she's  giving  it  a  trashed  river  bed  look  lol!
I  don't  keep  planted  tanks  but  I  think  as  a  designer  I  would  want  some  perspective  in  the  tank.  Maybe  a  slight  slope  and  all  the  tall  plants  at  the  back  in  denser  bunches  rather  than  planted  separately..

 Hi!
Cabomba  would  look  great  as  a  background  plant.  Instead  of  plastic  tube,  some  rocks  would  give  a  more  esthetic  appearance  to  the  planted  aquarium.

Provide  the  tank  specs....  will  help  the  members  in  giving  suggestions  better  as  scaping  and  choice  of  plants  will  vary  according  to  the  specs  (tank  size,  lights,  CO2  if  any,  substrate  etc....)

Also  as  Bettalover27  suggested  a  better  scaping  would  make  the  tank  look  really  pretty.....  Smile,  so  plant  with  a  purpose  and  not  haphazardly...........

The  tube  is  actually  called  a  Viewing  Tube(Yes,  they  have  a  name  for  everything...).Its  used  to  observe  shy,  fishes  like  the  Ghost  Knife  Fish. You  certainly  dont  need  it  for  a  Paradise  Fish. This  fish  is  in  the  hobby  since  the  1800s  and  is  not  timid  at  all  Chuckle

What  is  a  tank  size  mate?
I  see  two  tiger  barbs,  a  pair  of  rosy(?)  barb  and  the  paradise  gourami.
Tiger  barbs  are  fin  nippers  and  shouldnt  be  kept  in  numbers  less  than  6.They  are  gonna  give  the  gourami  a  hard  time  Sad

Think  about  all  the  specs  man. For  a  beginner,  i  believe  the  biggest  achievement  is  not  getting  everything  right,  its  just  getting  the  tank  to  start  with.

 All  the  best!   Thumb Up
   Smile

 Hi  all

The  designer  of  this  tank  is  a  "She"....I  dont  know  why  but  girls  are  usually  particular  about  every  detail  and  "She"  has  just  dumped  the  plants  where  she  felt  like     ROFL

The  Tank  is  3'l  x  1'w  x  1.5'  h  (aprox.  in  feet)....I  didn  go  to  her  place  and  measure  with  a  tape  so  these  are  approximate  values

 Lights  :  2  CFL  bulbs

I  dont  think  she  even  knows  why  put  CO2  in  tank   ROFL

PS:  I  guess  this  was  her  first  planted  tank

 Then  help  her!

I  am  guessing  two  bulbs  would  be  of  11-18W,  which  does  not  qualify  for  a  planted  tank.Upgrade  the  lights  and  the  scape,  probably  remove  the  tiger  barbs  or  add  some  more.

BTW,  i  guess  "she"  planted  one  of  the  plants  upside  down,it  is  a  cocamba  so  the  plant  wont  mind  much. But  still  it  looks  kinda  wierd  Chuckle
