 Livebearers  fish  show  results

The  first  fish  show  of  livebearers  has  just  concluded  successfully  and  I  thank  all  the  participants, the  judges  and  the  show  steward.

1st  place  Kiran  Koppikar(Combitore)  Black  Guppies.
2nd  place  Shyam  Prakash(Bangalore)  Mango  Platies.
3rd  place  Nikil  Sood(Bangalore)  Half  Beaks.
This  is  just  a  brief.Detailed  results  and  points  awarded  will  follow. After  the  results  were  announced  nearly  all  the  entry  fishes  were  auctioned  for  above  the  reserve  price  fixed  by  the  owners. The  fish  lovers, specators  and  onlookers  were  happy  and  the  press  covered  the  event.

 Congratulations  to  all  the  winners!!

 From  a  personal  perspective:
All  participants  deserve  a  credit.  All  specimens  were  excellent.
If  I  were  a  judge,  everyone  would  have  got  a  prize        Very Happy
I'm  sure  it's  been  very  difficult  even  for  the  members  of  the  jury  to  conclude  the  prizes.
All  applause  to  all  the  participants  for  their  spirit.

 Personal  Note  to  Organizers:
 1.  Please  make  sure  the  water  provided  in  the  display  tank  is  Crystal  Clear.
 2.  Organize  for  lighting  on  the  display  tanks.
 3.  Provide  time  for  the  participants  to  speak  on  their  exhibits.

 Thanks,

 3.  Provide  time  for  the  participants  to  speak  on  their  exhibits.

 1.  Yes  the  next  time  around.  Monsoon  ain't  a  good  time  for  anyone.  It's  taking  3  days  or  more  to  clear  the  water.
 2.  It  will  be  practically  impossible  for  a  hobbyist  society  to  provide  this  kind  of  infra  structure.  I  have  not  seen  any  hobbyist  society  conducting  a  competition  providing  lighting.  With  increase  in  participation  anticipated  it  will  be  impossible  to  locate  lighting  and  periodically  increase  the  same.
Clearer  water  should  compensate  for  this  next  time  around.  For  judges  to  make  things  easier  a  hand  held  CFL  light  or  such  can  be  provided.  Since  this  is  to  kick  off  the  competition  fever  it  will  not  be  possible  to  make  an  expenditure  on  this  infrastructure  at  this  stage  especially  when  no  entrance  fee  is  being  charged.  However  if  this  were  to  become  a  weekly  event  something  can  be  done  but  then  space  and  time  is  in  short  supply.
 Let's  think  about  it  anyway.
 3.  This  can  be  arranged.  The  participants  can  be  stationed  next  to  their  exhibit,  but  in  a  confined  space  this  might  lead  to  overcrowding.  I  would  like  to  make  it  compulsory  for  the  participants  to  make  a  small  placard  giving  all  details  of  their  exhibit  and  place  it  alongside  the  tank.

Yes,  Nag  it  was  a  close  fight.  As  one  of  the  Judges  for  this  contest  it  was  a  struggle  not  to  be  too  strict  and  too  liberal  all  at  the  same  time.

This  sure  was  a  good  beginning.  The  participants  who  entered  fish  which  they  had  been  caring  for  for  a  while,  or  fish  that  were  brought  from  a  good  environment  and  well  fed  scored  high  marks  rather  than  guys  who  purchased  just  about  any  fish  from  a  LFS  in  the  past  48  hours.  The  difference  was  so  obvious.

It  was  difficult  scoring  the  entries  as  some  of  them  would  have  stood  out  in  any  hobbyist  society  competition.

Cheers  to  all  the  winners  and  a  round  of  applause  to  the  organisers  and  judges  for  making  it  a  great  experience.  Going  through  the  posts,  I'm  sure  there  were  issues(like  lighting),  but  then  all  these  will  sort  themselves  out  in  the  long  run.

I  totally  agree  with  Madan's  Info-Placard  idea.  Gives  us  more  personalised  information  about  the  fish  in  particular  and  the  species  in  general.  This  information  would  be  useful  to  anyone  planning  on  bidding/buying  a  Not-So-Common  species  if  they  know  it's  general  requirements  etc.

Thanks  once  again  guys.    Very Happy

Nothing  really  thats  worth  uploading  actually.  And  the  fishes  photographs  came  out  pretty  bad  too,  too  cloudy/  low  light.  The  low  light  performance  of  this  camera  s@cks  too.  Anyways,  will  try  to  play  around  with  the  photos  and  upload  if  anything  good  comes  out  of  it  today.  Need  to  see  if  that  Pro  photographer  has  had  any  better  luck.

Okay,  here's  the  best  I  could  do  with  these  really  bad  snaps.  I'm  sorry  for  the  quality,  but  the  water  and  the  lights  just  didnt  help.  Sad

Coppermine  didnt  allow  me  to  create  the  ASK  Fish  Show  folder  under  the  "Events"  section.  IF  the  moderator/administrator  could  please  move  the  folder  into  the  "Events"  section,  it  would  be  great.  Else  let  it  be  there  since  the  images  are  already  linked  into  the  article.

More  over  I  have  the  individual  judge's  assesment  sheet  photographs  here  with  me  incase  anyone  is  interested.  If  you'd  want  them  for  retrospection  and  analysis  Wink  of  what  happened,  then  you  can  PM  me  for  that.  If  there  are  a  lot  of  requests  I  could  just  upload  it  here;  if  the  judges  do  not  mind.
