 Hi  friends,
Thanx  to  all  the  betta  keepers  and  their  outstanding  and  encouraging  posts  in  this  forum  that  has  made  me  a  betta  admirer.  Very Happy   Presently  I  am  planning  to  make  a  betta  setup.  I  have  two  2"-1"-1"  tanks  which  I'm  thinking  to  dedicate  to  my  Betta  hobby.   Cheering     Need  suggestions  from  the  experts  as  I  am  a  beginner  in  this  fish  category.  Sad
Firstly,  How  many  fishes  I  can  keep  in  a  tank  of  the  above  dimension(including  the  number  of  partitions)?
Secondly,  what  type  of  lighting  I  should  use  and  for  how  many  hrs/day?
Thirdly,  the  type  of  filtration  preferred?
Fourthly,  The  source  from  where  I  can  get  good  quality  Bettas  and  an  apprx.  Price?

Will  be  waiting  for  the  replies.  Thanks  in  advance  Very Happy

 Hi  Mridul,
Welcome  to  Betta  world.  I  am  no  expert  but  I  think  you  can  make  3  partitions  in  each.  Or  you  can  keep  one  male  and  3  to  four  females.  In  one  tank.
But  make  sure  to  keep  plants  and  lots  of  hiding  places  for  the  females,   as  males  are  very  teritorial  and  will  chase  the  females.  Bettas  are  very  curious  and  playful  will  enjoy  a  biggers  space.  And  Since  they  make  bubble  nest  on  the  water  surface,  I  ll  say  Sponge  filters  are  best  for  bettas.  you  can  Keep  the  filter  hidden  behind  plants.
Add  Indian  almond  Leaves  as  water  conditioner.  It  also  makes  there  scales  stronger.  add  rock  salt  time  to  time.

Keep  updating  with  pictures  as  you  go  ahead  with  your  tank.  We  are  always  Hungry  to  see  more  bettas.
 Good  Luck  Thumbs Up

u  can  divide  the  tank  into  partitons  of  6inch,  so  u'l  get  a  total  of  4  partitions  in  each  tank,  regular  water  changes  of  30%  twice  a  week  are  sufficient,   i  am  a  fan  of  water  changes  for  bettas  instead  of  using  filters,  add  a  3x3  inch  piece  of   almond  leaf  to  each  partiton,

I  think  for   2"-1"-1"  tank  3  partitions  would  be  sufficient..

 @mridul
y  do  u  want  aloe  vera  leaves??
we  use  dry  almond  leaves  for  bettas,  its  better  to  use  dry  leaves  that  have  fallen  off  the  tree  than  the  ones  that  have  been  broken  when  green  and  dried  under  the  sun,
i  think  u  can  find  a  lotta  indian  almond  trees  in  kolkata,  just  collect  the  dry  fallen  leaves,
would  not  recommend  using  gravel  as  it  will  be  a  hassle  when  water  chaning,  a  bare  bottom  tank  is  better  for  bettas  as  u  can  siphon  the  detrius  off  the  base  during  the  water  change.

@Mudassir:   The  confusion  created  due  to  my  stupidness  is  highly  regretted....  Sad   It  is  almond  I'm  asking  about.  Advice  appreciated. Will  surely  look  for  almond  trees  around  here.

@popatlal:  I'm  a  mere  beginner  in  Bettas....  So  the  breeding  part  comes  after  my  success  of  making  them  survive  happily.  Chuckle   Anyways  thanks  so  much  for  the  advice,  will  keep  in  mind  the  fact  which  is  sure  to  come  handy  later.  Very Happy

Sorry  to  say  both  my  tanks  need  a  good  amount  of  sealant  work.  And  the  festive  season  i.e.  Durga  Puja  which  is  a  huge  affair  in  kolkata  is  well  ahead.  And  I  am  also  going  for  a  trip  to   northern  india  on  6th  oct.  So  will  have  to  postpone  my  plans  untill  I  return  back  after  that.  Sad

Hello  to  all  the  members  of  this  wonderful  community.  :-)  I  have  ben  thinking  from  a  long  time  of  introducing  bettas  into  my  outdoor  cement  tank  (4x5x3feet)  (1200  litres)  ,  cos  they  look  wow!  i  know  though,  that  most  of  them  are  aggressive,  and  can  cause  problems,  having  had  a  few  murders  in  my  tank  earlier  by  my  golden  gourami  and  my  tin  foil  barb,  i  want  to  know  beforehand  what  all  has  to  be  done  if  i  have  to  have  Siamese  fighters.  like  is  it  an  okay  idea  to  keep  them  in  a  community  tank,  (well  planted  and  lots  of  hiding  places),  or  should  I  abandon  the  idea?

Just  keep  them  alone  if  you  want  to  enjoy  there  beauty.  They  should  not  be  kept  in  community  tanks.
