A  very  secretive  species  this  one.  Will  not  come  out  during  the  day  at  all.  That  is  partly  my  fault  too  as  I  spot  feed  him.  Territorial  but  not  overtly  aggressive  towards  the  other  fish  (mostly  Mystus  Sp)  in  the  tank.

Will  blend  in  perfectly  in  a  biotope  with  big  barbs.  Eats  any  good  quality  sinking  food.

Vyas   :   You  keep  this  species  too  right???  What  sorta  substrate  do  you  have  in  the  tank  and  have  you  noticed  'em  clearing  sand  from  their  'lair'.  I  use  gravel  and  it  is  always  cleared  away.  This  species  is  collected  from  a  habitat  with  very  fine  sand.  I  suppose  this  could  be  the  reason.

@  Balaji:  Yup  have  a  couple  of  these...Very  secretive...Lucky  if  I  seem  em  by  the  day.  Both  of  them  have  their  own  hangouts  (hollows  inside  driftwood).  The  gravel  is  the  usual  river  gravel...

Never  had  the  opportunity  to  observe  this  behavior  you  quote. Will  keep  a  watch  out..

I  concur  that  these  are  amongst  the  most  beautiful  cats  i  have  had  the  opportunity  to  keep  ...Thanks  Andrew!!

Ha  ha.  You  won't  know  what  hit  you  when  I  am  done.  You  will  be  too  busy  working  on  Mystus  cf.  bleekeri  .

Mine  uses  a  triangular  shaped  piece  of  driftwood  for  its  'lair'.  So  maybe  the  gravel  underneath  is  proving  to  be  an  irritant.  No  aggression  shown  towards  each  other???

I  keep  saying  this  every  time  I  post  pics  so  I  better  show  some  restraint  now.

Amongst  the  mid  sized  cats  these  are  firm  favorites...there  are  way  too  many  smaller  ones  which  I  keep  drooling  over   :)

I  have  seen  occasional  bickering  mostly  during  feeding..Most  of  the  other  Mystus/Ompok/Puntius  in  the  tank  seem  to  keep  a  safe  distance  away  from  these  two  ...

Now  that  you  mention  the  Gravel,  I  wouldn't  be  surprised  if  the  coarse  gravel  is  an  irritant  for  them..They  gotta  live  with  this  until  I  relocate.  I  hate  redoing  stable  tanks!

You  might  get  a  reprieve  if  you  manage  to  resuscitate  all  the  Mystus  you  have  in  formalin.
